Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at an acute care hospital with Level II Trauma designation.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting with 372 staffed beds and an average daily census of 130 in a 180-bed unit
  • Level II Trauma center
  • Respiratory/Neuro Diagnostics unit treating all age groups from neonatal through geriatric
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (1800-0630)
  • Will work every other or every third weekend depending on department need
  • On-call required December through April
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Level II Nursery with sporadic bubble CPAP and invasive mechanical ventilation
  • Peds care during RSV season with significant HFNC utilization
  • Assists with bronchoscopies on occasion
  • Performs nighttime and daytime SAT/SBT responsibilities
  • Responds to Emergency Department for codes, traumas, and severe respiratory distress
  • Uses Drager V500 Ventilators, EV 300 and V60 BiPAPs, ResMed Tabletop PAP Devices, Volara (metaneb), Vest therapy, Aerobika, Breath Actuated Nebulizers, and Aerogen on all equipment
  • Cerner EMR experience required
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • RRT, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (license required if applicable)
  • Active Illinois state license required at time of application
  • AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
  • Required experience in Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Pediatrics
  • Preferred experience in NICU, PICU, and patient transports
  • Cerner charting system experience required
  • Community Hospital experience preferred
  • Level I and Level II Trauma experience preferred
  • Skilled in airway management including ET tube/suctioning, extubation, intubation assist, nasal/oral airway placement, and tracheostomy care
  • Experience caring for patients with ARDS, aspiration, COVID, cystic fibrosis, fresh tracheostomy, and pneumonia
  • Experience administering respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Pulmicort, and others
  • Skilled in ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Neonatal/pediatric skills including bubble CPAP, capillary and umbilical blood gases, and IMV/SIMV required
  • Proficient in ABG interpretation and drawing arterial blood gases
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • RTO ideally limited to no more than 5 days
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Scrub color preference is navy blue, though any solid color is acceptable if navy is unavailable
  • Parking permit required but provided at no cost, completed during orientation
