Job description

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – Day or Night
Full Time
Shenandoah, TX, US

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Location: Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah, TX
Schedule: Full Time | Days or Nights, rotating 3-4 day weeks, with every other weekend requirement

About Us

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah is a 50-bed specialty hospital serving patients ages 12 and up with co-occurring medical and behavioral needs. It is the higher-acuity Nexus setting, so the environment is more specialized than a standard med-surg floor, with patients who may have brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, severe chronic illness, and other medically complex conditions. The campus includes ICU, transitional care, and rehab units, so the work is very hands-on and clinically involved. For nursing, it is a strong fit for someone comfortable with bedside care, acute changes, family communication, and patients whose medical and behavioral needs can overlap. Overall, it is best for an LVN who wants a specialty-hospital setting with more complexity and more interdisciplinary involvement than a traditional floor role.

Position Summary

We’re seeking a Pediatric LVN to provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients with medical and/or behavioral health conditions under the supervision of an RN or physician. In this role, you’ll support care plan implementation, administer medications and treatments, monitor for changes in condition, document patient responses, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. This role is best suited for an LVN who is comfortable in a structured inpatient setting where medical and behavioral complexity often overlap.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic nursing care to pediatric patients under RN, APRN, or physician supervision
  • Administer medications and treatments safely within LVN scope
  • Monitor and report signs of acute illness, chronic condition changes, or behavioral health crises
  • Observe, document, and communicate changes in patient status to the supervising RN or provider
  • Support implementation of care plans and reinforce patient/family education
  • Use approved de-escalation techniques and support behavioral interventions under supervision
  • Follow safety, infection control, and documentation standards in a fast-paced inpatient setting
  • Collaborate with nursing, physicians, therapists, and families to support continuity of care
Qualifications
  • Current LVN license in Texas
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required, per unit requirement
  • PALS required, per unit requirement
  • De-escalation training within 30 days of hire
  • 1–2 years of pediatric nursing experience preferred, ideally in an acute care setting
  • Inpatient/rehab / acute / post-acute hospital experience preferred
  • Experience with patients who have medical and/or behavioral health diagnoses strongly preferred
Why Join Nexus?
  • Specialty hospital focused on complex medical and behavioral cases
  • Higher-acuity setting with ICU, transitional, and rehab capacity
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
  • Opportunity to grow in a specialty pediatric inpatient setting
  • Full-time day or night options available

Apply today and make a difference for patients with some of the most complex medical and behavioral needs.
