Job Title: Installer (Non-Exempt)
Location: San Diego
Pay Range: $22–$32 per hour (DOE)
About The Role
Skyhook Metal Designs dba Skyhook Stairs amp; Rails is a specialty contracting company focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of architectural stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals. Our work blends craftsmanship, precision, and high-end design. We are seeking dependable, hardworking Installers to support our field installation team.
This is a non-exempt, hourly position. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in active construction environments. This role is critical in supporting Lead Installers and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
Position Summary
The Installer works closely with the Lead Installer and Project Managers to assist in the installation of stair and railing systems at job sites. This role requires strong teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate project needs while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Installers will regularly perform physical labor, assist with material handling, and communicate with job site personnel including foremen and superintendents.
General Qualifications
• Reliable transportation
• Strong teamwork and collaborative attitude
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to follow direction and work independently when needed
• Must be physically fit and able to perform demanding job site work
• Ability to lift and carry materials up to 75 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately
• Comfortable working at heights
• Construction experience preferred
• Experience with trim/finish carpentry preferred
• Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings is a plus
Job Responsibilities
• Assist with installation of stair and railing systems
• Support Lead Installer with project setup, execution, and completion
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
• Load, transport, and handle materials and tools safely
• Communicate effectively with team members and onsite personnel
• Anticipate next steps to support efficient workflow
• Follow all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures
• Represent the company professionally on job sites
Compensation amp; Employment Status
• Hourly, non-exempt position
• Competitive pay based on experience ($22–$32/hour)
• Overtime paid in accordance with California law, including daily and weekly overtime
• Eligible for company benefits, including health, dental, and vision coverage, and a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan
• All benefits are available following the completion of a 90-day introductory period
• Paid holidays for company-observed holidays and applicable paid sick leave in accordance with California law
Work Schedule
• Regular schedule: Monday through Thursday
• Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs
• Local job sites; home every night
