Job description

Job Goal:
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for inspection, quality documentation, quality of products, scrap review, and review of nonconforming material to achieve on-time shipments in a safe and efficient manner. The supervisor typically supervises the activity of 2-4 employees and acts as a floor leader for the Quality department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Train and coach employees towards top performance, accurate inspection, manufacturing of quality products, and identify needed training by contacting the appropriate departments to schedule it.
  • Conduct ongoing training for operators, supervisors, and inspectors on standards, defects, documentation, and customer requirements as needed.
  • Participate in selecting and hiring staff along with HR and the Quality Manager as needed.
  • Handle employee scheduling within ADP (or current system), including managing and reporting time off requests and approvals. Plan and staff direct reports, including workstation assignments/rotations, vacations, breaks, and backup plans for absent employees. Conduct one-on-one meetings with your team on a regular cadence.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for all required Personal Protective Equipment and following processes and procedures.
  • Follow and enforce GRT Mission. Set clear expectations and hold staff accountable.
  • Support manufacturing to perform root cause and corrective actions as well as troubleshoot product quality issues as they arise.
  • Assist the Quality Department in quality checks as needed. Ensure gaps within the Quality team are addressed.
  • Execute audits as assigned by the Quality Manager.
  • Educate employees about the importance of correct tool usage, and ensure all tools used on the production floor are company-approved.
  • Effectively communicate with all departments and quality inspectors about problems, scheduling changes, rush orders, and any nonconforming parts.
  • Consult with multiple departments as needed (Molding, Fabrication, Project Management, Shipping, etc.)
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Complete necessary paperwork associated with incidents and accidents as required.
  • Verify all paperwork is completed timely and accurately by direct reports.
  • Provide feedback on scrap, defects, reworks, etc. to the Quality Manager.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Must have prior manufacturing experience.
  • Must have prior Quality experience.
  • Must possess computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with the ability to organize electronic documents.
  • Ability to interpret drawings is required.
  • Ability to use inspection tools (tape measure and calipers) is required.
  • Experience in a position demonstrating strong communication skills.
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory position preferred.
  • Prior auditing knowledge and familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 is preferred.
  • Experience supporting Root Cause and Corrective Action processes preferred.
  • Ability to operate a forklift is required and subject to testing upon hire.
  • Must be available for overtime and weekends when necessary.
  • Company policy requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, protective sleeves, cutting gloves, and safety toe shoes.

Working Conditions:
The employee must have the ability to stand for up to 12 hours a day. The ability to lift up to 75 pounds is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
