Position Summary:

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor functions as an integral member of the Operations Team and shares the responsibility for establishing and maintaining a professional working environment that is committed to customer service, quality, teamwork and continuous improvement. In addition, the supervisor is directly accountable for ensuring that products meet or exceed the standards set for safety, quality, cost, productivity and customer service in this established food manufacturing facility.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Shift supervision to maintain the flow of product as per production requirements, customer specifications and productivity targets.
  • Ensuring product & packaging quality, product & packaging efficiencies, shop floor logistics (production sequence, utilization of equipment, staffing levels, product costs, product run times, line efficiencies & operational capacity).
  • Assuring daily production schedules are met and the timely accurate communication of all issues.
  • Monitor shift production activities against production plan and paperwork and communicate progress within the team on the shift.
  • Overseeing and assisting team members in production activities on assigned shift to ensure that:
    • QC protocols are in place with all required documentation (including daily records) completed accurately and on time.
    • All raw materials/packaging required to meet the production plan are in stock and available.
    • Work is performed according to SOP's, GMP's, Food Safety Requirements and Health and Safety standards.
    • Quality products are produced, as ordered, on time by working together efficiently and efficiently.
  • Deliver training to team members as required to ensure proper production SOP's, GMP's, equipment and Health & Safety Standards are met
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the required high standards of cleanliness and general housekeeping.
  • Carry out timely and effective line handover to supervisors between shifts, including the completion of proper documentation and accurate briefing on progress/issues.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, sanitation and Health & Safety protocols are followed by all team members at all times.
  • Checking and verification of timekeeping logs for assigned team members daily.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and codes in all areas of plant including WSIB, HACCP, WHMIS, & Workplace H&S.
  • Assist and support the R&D, QC, Maintenance/Engineering and Production Department Managers to troubleshoot and resolve problems in their area as required.
Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years supervisory experience. 
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing facilities. 
  • Post secondary education in a related field. 
  • Hands on and results oriented supervisory experience. 
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Identify, schedule, and follow up on preventative equipment maintenance and comprehend general mechanical processes. 
  • Work with employees to adequately ensure HACCP, USDA OSHA and other regulatory standards are met.
  • maintain or exceed goals on yields, productivity and efficiencies.  
  • Understand and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the production staff ensuring an excellent job performance. 
  • Work well with a diverse workforce 
  • To solicit suggestions in the areas of safety, efficiency and morale from all levels of employees including management, general laborers, supervisors, etc. 
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to sustain excellent interpersonal and labour relations across cultural and ethnic diversity.

  • Proficient with basic standards office computer technology such as Microsoft Office (Work & Excel).
