Job description

Position:ย Deputy County Clerk - Elections

Department:ย Lee County Clerk & Recorder

Reports To:ย Lee County Clerk & Recorder

Classification:ย Non-exempt

Salary Level:ย $18.00 - $20.00/hr

The Lee County Clerk's Office is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-service focused individual to join our team as a Deputy County Clerk - Elections. This position plays an important role in supporting voter registration and all phases of election administration while also assisting with general office operations and public service within the County Clerk's Office.ย 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a public office environment, managing multiple responsibilities, and contributing to the integrity and success of the election process within county government.ย 

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the public in person, by phone, and electronically regarding voter registration, elections, records, and county services
  • Processing voter registrations, updates, cancellations, and election-related records
  • Assisting with all phases of election administration including vote by mail processing, early voting, election day operations, election night procedures, and post-election activities
  • Recruiting, scheduling, and assisting with training election judges
  • Coordinating nursing home voting activities
  • Preparing election notices, publications, reports, correspondence, and maintaining election information on the county website
  • Processing Statements of Economic Interest and related filings
  • Performing clerical and administrative duties including filing, scanning, data entry, faxing, and document preparation
  • Receiving and processing payments as assigned
  • Preparing daily and monthly reports
  • Coordinating with township officials, county departments, state agencies, election vendors, and outside organizations
  • Managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced office environment
  • Performing additional office-related duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Previous clerical, administrative support, customer service, or related office experience, preferred
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong computer proficiency and ability to learn election software and office systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to develop knowledge of election laws, state statutes, county ordinances, and departmental procedures
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines and manage frequent interruptions
  • Experience in local government, elections administration, or public office operations is preferred

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with regular weekday office hours. Additional hours, including evenings, will be required during election cycles, early voting periods, and other election-related activities.ย 

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and operate office equipment regularly. Occasional lifting and carrying of election supplies, files, and materials up to 25 pounds may be required.
