Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We deliver secure, high-quality language access in 80+ spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Karen Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. The Karen languages (primarily S’gaw Karen and Pwo Karen) are spoken in Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, and diaspora communities, and are critical rare languages often needed in asylum and immigration interviews.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Karen ↔ English telephonic interpretation (specify dialect: S’gaw or Pwo).
  • Deliver interpretations with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in immigration, asylum, and legal contexts.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Manage both scheduled and urgent/surge calls.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Karen (S’gaw and/or Pwo) and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, NGO, community, medical, or government preferred).
  • Strong cultural knowledge of Karen-speaking communities.
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, neutrality, and confidentiality standards.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
