Accounting Technician – Corporate

Location: Fayetteville, NC
Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour
Travel: Up to 10%
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (some evenings and weekends required)

Position Summary

The Accounting Technician supports financial operations by assisting with payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, and general accounting functions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely financial processing while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and regulations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Compile, process, and maintain payroll records, including wages, deductions, and adjustments
  • Review payroll data for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare payroll reports, including earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Process direct deposits and transmit ACH files to the bank
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including benefits, exemptions, and leave balances
  • Reconcile payroll before transmission and validate reports
  • Manage retirement reporting and payments with Principal Financial Group
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations and garnishment requirements
  • Process timesheets and attendance records
  • Assist with year-end payroll reporting as needed
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Accounting on payroll-related matters
  • Provide general accounting support, including data entry and reconciliations
  • Serve as backup for Purchasing Clerk and Accounts Payable Clerk
  • Coordinate and process maintenance requests with staff and vendors
  • Maintain the Maintenance Request System (MRS) for accuracy and timely completion
  • Work with the Facilities Manager and IT to support organizational needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related field

Experience:

  • 2 years of related experience

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.


Required Skills amp; Competencies
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and payroll processes
  • Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and word processing tools
  • Ability to learn agency-specific systems within 60 days
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems and 10-key calculator
