Job description

Position Purpose:

The NextGen EMR Trainer collaborates with physicians and staff to improve knowledge and utilization of NextGen EMR functionality, enhance clinical documentation, increase workflow efficiency, and assess operational processes. This role serves as a Tier 1 EMR support and training resource with entry-level responsibility for EMR software education and medical staff training.

Training is conducted in a variety of settings including classrooms, one-on-one sessions, group meetings, at-the-elbow support, and virtual platforms such as Zoom and Webex. The EMR Trainer also provides onsite โ€œGo Liveโ€ support during system implementations and serves as a subject matter expert for testing and maintaining EMR applications.

The ideal candidate will provide ongoing support and continued education to all departments while ensuring adherence to organizational guidelines and best practices.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Provide NextGen training and support to new Front Office, Back Office, and Clinical employees.
  2. Conduct training in classroom and on-site work environments.
  3. Document workflows for NextGen PM, EHR, DM, and EDR systems to support Revenue Cycle and Clinical Operations.
  4. Assist in developing quizzes and follow-up training sessions.
  5. Perform NextGen activity audits and charting compliance reviews.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve reported application issues daily.
  7. Maintain positive working relationships with team members and staff.
  8. Support Workflow Administrator, EHR Inbox Tasking, PAQ Delegation, and PM Worklog functions.
  9. Configure staff preferences and setup in EHR and PM systems.
  10. Maintain knowledge of NextGen Patient Portal and related portals.
  11. Participate in QA/validation testing for software upgrades and system changes.
  12. Provide support and end-user training for NextGen-related applications including EHR, PM, DM, and EDR.
  13. Escalate unresolved application issues to IT and/or vendors as needed.
  14. Serve as liaison between IT, clinic sites, and software vendors.
  15. Work closely with the NextGen EMR Supervisor and Lead Trainer.
  16. Conduct virtual training sessions through Zoom or Webex.
  17. Assist in updating training materials and workflows during upgrades or new implementations.
  18. Identify workflow inefficiencies and assist in resolution efforts.
  19. Collaborate with Clinic Administrators to implement best practices.
  20. Support document management functions including scanning, filing, and re-filing.
  21. Coordinate training schedules across all entities with the EHR Manager.
  22. Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  23. Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
  24. Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.
  25. Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  26. Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.
  27. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of two years of work experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  2. Medical Assistant (MA) background required.
  3. Knowledge of EMR software and healthcare operations.
  4. Strong training and facilitation skills; healthcare training experience preferred.
  5. Experience with NextGen EMR preferred.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. FQHC experience preferred.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; Visio and SharePoint a plus).
  9. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive assignments.
  10. Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  12. Ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  13. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  14. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  15. Understanding of implementation processes and operational/technology interdependencies.
  16. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
