Job description

Kelly® Science & Clinical is currently seeking a Proteomics Principal Investigator for a direct hire opportunity for one of our clients, a multi-omics biotechnology company in San Diego, CA. If you are driven by the prospect of translating cutting-edge scientific discoveries into tangible advancements and are poised to advance your career, join us as we pioneer progress in the biotechnology industry.
Workplace: Onsite in San Diego, CA
Position: Proteomics Principal Investigator
Salary: $135,000-185,000
Overview
Join one of San Diego's most innovative biotechnology environments, where science and technology are advancing the frontiers of multi-omics for precision medicine. As a leader in contract research, our client’s organization empowers clients to accelerate drug discovery and development through groundbreaking integration of high-resolution mass spectrometry, computational biology, and complex human health datasets. Their cross-disciplinary team of experts is driven by a shared passion for improving health outcomes and shaping the future of therapies with rigorous, forward-thinking science.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Principal Investigator in Proteomics to lead multifaceted client programs and make a lasting impact on therapeutic advancement. You will drive the scientific direction of complex proteomic studies, foster innovation, and build trusted client relationships in a highly regulated CRO setting. Collaborating with exceptional minds in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and bioinformatics, you will transform raw data into actionable insights that fuel progress across therapeutic areas.
This client-facing role demands excellence in technical leadership, a flair for mentoring, and a talent for synthesizing multi-omics data into real-world solutions. You’ll thrive in our collaborative environment and set new standards for scientific achievement and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
  • Spearhead large-scale proteomics projects from conception to completion across discovery and translational research.
  • Project manage client programs, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality scientific solutions while troubleshooting complex challenges in both wet- and dry-lab workflows.
  • Design robust research strategies, study plans, and final reports to exceed client objectives.
  • Integrate mass spectrometry data (LC-MS/MS, Orbitrap, Q-TOF, timsTOF) and advanced analysis pipelines (DDA/DIA, PRM/MRM/SRM, TMT/iTRAQ, PTM) to drive breakthrough results.
  • Uphold rigorous regulatory and quality standards to deliver reliable and impactful data packages.
  • Lead and mentor high-performing cross-functional teams that include biologists, chemists, clinicians, and data scientists.
  • Remain on the cutting edge of scientific literature, emerging technology, and best practices in precision medicine.
Qualifications
  • PhD/MD in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, clinical science, or related discipline (or equivalent professional track).
    • BS + 10 years’ relevant experience, MS + 5 years’ relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of proven leadership in CRO, biotech, or pharmaceutical settings, including scientific project and team management.
  • Deep expertise in proteomics, mass spectrometry technologies, and associated data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute advanced proteomics experiments, from discovery to targeted workflows and PTM analysis.
  • Experience presenting complex scientific findings to clients and collaborating across departmental boundaries.
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing 15+ client programs concurrently.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to interpret and communicate multidimensional scientific data.
  • Passion for mentoring, training, and engaging key stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Commitment to scientific rigor, accuracy, and up-to-date knowledge in precision medicine.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Collaborate and grow alongside leading scientists, engineers, and clinicians in San Diego’s thriving biotech community.
  • Make a tangible difference by advancing treatments that enhance patient outcomes across diverse therapeutic modalities.
  • Engage in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating environment with opportunities for continuous learning and innovation.
