Job description

Senior Associate Pastor - James City Community Church
Senior Associate Pastor (Senior Pastor Succession Track)

Church: James City Community Church (JC3)

Location: Williamsburg, VA

Status: Full-Time (Clergy)

Compensation: Competitive comprehensive pastoral package (salary based on experience + housing allowance, retirement, insurance, and relocation assistance).

Who We Are

JC3 is a healthy, multigenerational congregation seeking our next Lead Pastor. We are intentionally looking for a Senior Associate Pastor to join us for a five-year journey of growth and mentorship - a structured transition that moves from cultural immersion and shared leadership into eventual succession.

We are looking for a leader who wants to fall in love with a church family before they lead it. One will be given the time and support to build deep relational roots and establish your teaching voice before assuming the weight of organizational oversight.

The Profile / About the Applicant

  • A Fully Devoted Follower: First and foremost, one must be personally committed to following Christ with an attitude of humility, knowing that we are ALL broken people in need of healing, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and at times physically. One desires to grow more like Jesus - loving God and loving others - living these truths out by devotional life - servant attitude - seeing others as people to serve, not to use. Being a witness of Jesus, sharing His love in practical ways.
  • A Devoted Shepherd: One is energized by people. Views hospital visits, coffee shop discipleship, and counseling as the "front lines" of ministry.
  • A Gifted Teacher: One can handle the Word of Truth with precision and compassion. One is ready to share the pulpit and develop a teaching rhythm that feeds the flock.
  • A Mature Leader: One possesses executive potential but lead with a servant’s heart (whatever it takes to love God and love others). One is in a season of life where the candidate is ready to invest one's best years into a long-term legacy and plant deep roots for the next 20+ years.
  • A Teachable Partner: Looking for a "Paul and Timothy" relationship and values the wisdom of the current Senior Pastor and are eager to learn the unique DNA of this house.
  • A Shared Calling: We recognize that pastoral ministry is often a shared journey. We are looking for a candidate whose spouse, if applicable, is equally enthusiastic about planting deep roots in Williamsburg and who views themselves as a partner in the relational life of the church.

Qualifications

  • Theological Alignment: Theologically aligned with JC3’s core convictions.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years serving in ministry, preferably in a leadership role.
    • Developing people and a heart for Next-Gen and multi-generational ministry.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills with experience in public speaking (preaching/teaching preferred)
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher
    • OR equivalent ministry or life experience demonstrating a strong commitment to follow and bring others to Jesus. Willing to pursue further theological training if not already degreed.

How to Apply: This is a high-trust, selective calling. Please submit the following items by June 15, 2026:

  1. A Personal Letter and Testimony: Describe how one came to faith in Christ, one's calling to pastoral ministry, and why a 5-year succession track appeals to the applicant. If applicable, please also include a brief section on one's family’s perspective regarding this transition and their commitment to this long-term journey.
  2. Resume. Resume should demonstrate five years of relevant experience, specific evidence of growing "Next-Gen" or small group ministries, and clear examples of successfully serving under a senior leader.
  3. Video Links: 2–3 videos links of the applicant's preaching or teaching.

Formal references will be requested for candidates advancing to the next stage of the vetting process.

We understand the weight of this calling. All inquiries and applications will be handled with the utmost confidentiality by our transition team.
