Position Summary

The Public Works Laborer performs a wide variety of manual labor, maintenance, construction, repair, and emergency response duties in support of the Borough's public infrastructure and facilities. Employees in this position are responsible for maintaining roads, stormwater systems, sanitary sewer systems, public buildings, parks, grounds, trees, and municipal equipment while providing essential services to residents throughout the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sewer and stormwater maintenance
  • Roadway and infrastructure maintenance
  • Tree and grounds maintenance
  • Building and facility maintenance/cleaning
  • Snow and ice control
  • Emergency response
  • Equipment operation and maintenance

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL, class “B” with tanker endorsement.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CDL class “B”, landscaping, building construction, concrete or paver construction, equipment operation, wastewater certifications.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting. Ability to lift to 75 pounds.

Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to traffic, weather extremes, sewer environments, construction hazards, and emergency situations.
