Job description
Implements BIPs designed by a BCBA, including strategies like positive reinforcement, shaping, prompting, and chaining, and seeks out appropriate consultation as needed
Provides one-on-one or small group support to individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral challenges, teaching new skills and managing problematic behaviors in various settings, such as at home, in school, or in public, all while closely adhering to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Assists students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to, hygiene, diapering, toileting and wash-up routines, as needed
Assists students with mobility needs such as, lifting and positioning students, lifting in and out of wheelchairs; and loading and unloading the bus and operates adaptive equipment, as needed
Reports student concerns directly and promptly to the teacher and/or BCBA, and assists with student resolution
Provides immediate crisis intervention and support to students exhibiting severe behavioral issues, following established protocols
Accurately records and graphs behavioral data, including frequency, duration, and intensity of behaviors to monitor progress and inform BIP development
Supports the teaching of skills related to communication, social interaction, self-care, and academics, including daily living through structured interventions
Assists with conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
Implements strategies to decrease challenging behaviors using evidence-based techniques, as guided by the BCBA
Builds positive rapport with students, teachers, other related service providers and their families, providing updates on progress and addressing concerns
Collaborates with BCBAs and other related service providers to ensure coordinated support
Adheres to student confidentiality and ethical guidelines
Performs other duties as required

Report Preparation:Prepares reports related to behavioral monitoring and assessing, as requested
Equipment Operation:This position requires skill in the use of a computer, duplicating equipment, and various assistive technology devices.
Work Direction/Supervision:This position does not provide work direction or supervise other positions.
Decision Making:Performs functions independently, as directed and guided by the classroom teacher and/or BCBA
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:This position does not have any formal policy-setting responsibilities.
Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist or move students for hygiene needs, or use approved verbal, non-verbal, or physical crisis prevention/intervention techniques when required to intervene in student safety issues. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
Work Environment:The employee regularly works in a school or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures; of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others. Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the special education teacher ; to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students, staff.
Additional Job Requirements:Must hold valid Registered Behavior Technician certification from the Virginia Behavior Analyst Certification Board, or must be able to obtain certification while on the job within the first 120 days of employment. Must hold certification in a restraint intervention program (preferably MANDT) or must obtain certification within 90 days of employment. Assignment placement may require additional training requirements such as specific training on aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Preferred: Two years of related experience
