Job description
Hood College is seeking a full-time (12-month), tenure-track assistant/associate professor or non-tenure track (Professor of Practice) of Nursing who will serve as director for the newly created DNP/PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) program in Nursing. This new graduate program is part of the college’s growing nursing portfolio of programs. Under the collaborative leadership of the Chair of the Department of Nursing, Dean of the Ruth Whitaker Holmes School of Behavioral and Health Sciences, and Dean of the Graduate School, the Program Director of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program is responsible for the leadership, administration, and development of and teaching in the PMHNP educational program. This role involves overseeing curriculum design, student recruitment, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. In addition, a portion of the program director’s time (20%) will be devoted to research activities conducted in collaboration with a federal partner or federal laboratory. The full-time program director is also responsible for teaching in their area of expertise and overseeing the PMHNP track within the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The preferred candidate will have program development, accreditation, and teaching/mentoring experience necessary to support the implementation of this degree track.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Program Director (40%)
- Ensure alignment with institutional goals and objectives;
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment among faculty and staff;
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the PMHNP curriculum;
- Integrate current best practices and evidence-based approaches into the program;
- Regularly assess and update course content to meet evolving healthcare industry needs;
- Provide strategic direction for the PMHNP program;
- Establish preceptor sites for PMHNP program within the nursing graduate program with plans for growth based on enrollment;
- Investigate and apply for external funding opportunities for the graduate program;
- Support the graduate school on recruitment efforts for the graduate program;
- Develop and oversee an assessment plan in alignment with the assessment culture at the College and in alignment with accreditation standards;
- Serve on the Graduate Council as program director;
- Establish regional partnerships with the goal of identifying experiential learning opportunities for students and potential research opportunities for faculty;
- Identify and vet, in partnership with the dean and chair, adjunct faculty when necessary;
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Teaching (30%)
- Demonstrate an ability or the potential for quality teaching;
- Teach 12 credits in the Nurse Practitioner program over a 12-month period;
- Plan courses, write syllabi, and design assignments for each course to meet Hood College and departmental curriculum requirements and assessment needs, utilizing
a variety of teaching techniques; - Present lectures, and supervise class activities, on topics appropriate to the course material;
- Instruct students in course content and provide learning opportunities in and out of the classroom to achieve course and programmatic objectives;
- Critique performance on various assignments to measure the quality of learning, to facilitate skill building, to challenge students’ assumptions, and to reinforce
concepts, which must include practical application of new skills; - Maintain weekly office hours, be available before and after class, and engage in contact with students as appropriate. Work with students and supervisors to
address problems and resolve issues; - Determine grades for assignments and for overall achievement in class. Provide appropriate documentation of grades to students and department as appropriate;
- Utilize digital and electronic platforms such as Blackboard and Chalk & Wire in instruction, record-keeping, and data collection;
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Research/Scholarship/Professional Development (20%)
- As a requirement of this position, at least 20% of the year must be dedicated to research/scholarship in support of a federal laboratory or associated federal laboratory research support organization;
- Participate in other scholarly activities in the academic and professional field;
- Engage in ongoing professional development in the field, as well as in teaching/pedagogy.
Service (10%)
- Serve as advisor or committee member for doctoral students;
- Advise graduate students;
- Support and participate in college committees;
- Serve as an actively engaged member of the department and Ruth Whitaker Holmes School of Behavioral and Health Sciences.
Travel may be occasionally necessary to attend local, state, and regional professional conferences and to foster off-campus partnership opportunities.

Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in nursing education
- Must have a certification by (AANP or ANCC) as a PMHNP and an unencumbered RN license (Maryland).
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic or clinical settings.
- Must have a terminal degree (PhD or DNP). If Ph.D. is in a related field, the candidate must have a master’s degree in nursing.
Preferred Skills and Characteristics
Technology Skills
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly, including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal stakeholders through multiple communication modalities. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting, and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programmatic resources and needs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Compensation
The salary for this position ranges from $100,000-$115,000/year depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation for work completed beyond the minimum contracted teaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
