Job description

Junior Software Engineer

Build real public safety software with AI tools, modern web apps, and direct engineering mentorship.

Our client builds software used by public safety teams that handle sensitive criminal justice information. This is not another generic SaaS job. The product supports compliance, security, training, audits, validations, and workflows that agencies rely on every day.

This role is for a builder. Someone early-career, hungry, technical, and already using AI coding agents to make real things. You do not need every exact tool in their stack. You do need strong fundamentals, modern web app instincts, and proof that you can build, learn, explain, and improve fast.

You'll work closely with the VP of Engineering in a small team with startup feel, real product goals, and room to grow. The team is modernizing older products, building new ones, and creating an internal AI-assisted development setup that gives engineers structure without killing creativity.

This role is remote-friendly, but Austin, TX is preferred. The team would love someone local who can occasionally collaborate in person for planning, onboarding, or higher-value working sessions. That said, Austin is not required. Strong candidates elsewhere in the U.S. will absolutely be considered.

Role Snapshot
  • Role: Junior Software Engineer
  • Pay: $85K - $115K
  • Location/Type: Remote-friendly Austin, TX preferred for occasional in-person collaboration
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday
  • Focus: Modern web apps, cloud-native tools, AI coding agents
What You'll Do
  • Build modern web app features.
  • Work across front-end and back-end systems.
  • Use AI coding agents to solve real problems.
  • Learn the stack through guided, hands-on work.
  • Sandbox ideas before moving them into product.
  • Help modernize older products into newer systems.
  • Ship features that support public safety workflows.
Must-Haves
  • Recent CS grad with strong AI-built projects.
  • Or reputable bootcamp grad with strong projects.
  • Or junior engineer with 1 year experience.
  • Built full apps using AI coding agents.
  • Can demo real work during Zoom.
  • Can explain how your app works live.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Technical Fit
  • Modern web app experience.
  • React, .NET, Nest.js, Rails, Node.js, Python web frameworks, or similar.
  • MVC or comparable app architecture understanding.
  • Basic database and API literacy.
  • Cloud-native awareness: storage, services, deployments.
  • Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, or similar tools.
Nice to Have
  • Austin, TX location or ability to occasionally collaborate in person.
  • Azure exposure.
  • GitHub Actions experience.
  • React front-end work.
  • .NET or C# experience.
  • DevOps or cloud project experience.
Perks & Pay
  • Pay: $85K - $115K.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • PTO and paid holidays.
  • Direct coaching from engineering leadership.
  • Real product work, not junior busywork.
Schedule & Setup
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday.
  • Remote-friendly role.
  • Austin, TX preferred for occasional in-person work, but not required.
  • Internal AI tooling and guided workflows.
  • Microsoft Teams environment.
  • U.S.-based candidates only.
Impact & Growth

Your work helps public safety teams move faster, stay compliant, and protect sensitive data.

You'll have room to experiment, learn, and teach the team what you discover. If you find better ways to solve old problems, that matters here.

You like building. You like showing your work. You use AI to move faster, but you still understand what the code is doing.

At Urrly, fairness matters. We use AI to review every application against the same clear requirements for the role. This means every candidate is evaluated on job-related factors like skills, certifications, and experience, not on personal attributes such as gender, race, age, or background. Our goal is to create a more objective, consistent, and equal opportunity hiring process for all applicants.

Apply Today to build real public safety software, use modern AI coding tools, and grow fast with direct engineering mentorship.
