As a Power Hardware Engineer at Ciena, this role contributes to the design and delivery of high-performance power solutions for advanced networking platforms. The position offers hands-on technical engagement across the product lifecycle from concept through production. Collaboration across engineering disciplines supports development of reliable and scalable power architectures.

How you will make an impact:

  • Develop product-level power systems, subcomponent power designs, and circuit pack-level power architectures for next-generation platforms

  • Contribute to high-performance circuit pack power solutions, including schematic capture and layout collaboration with hardware design primes

  • Design alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power interface modules and platform cooling solutions

  • Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineering teams to resolve design and integration challenges

  • Partner with external suppliers, procurement, and manufacturing teams to transition power hardware designs into production

  • Verify system and subcomponent designs using engineering and production prototypes through hands-on lab validation

The must haves:

  • Education: Graduating in 2026 from a Bachelor of Engineering degree

  • Experience: Previous internship, co-op, or applied project experience relevant to the role

  • Demonstrated project management knowledge and strong work organization skills

  • Hands-on experience with power laboratory test equipment, measurement techniques, and microelectronic power product development

  • Familiarity with printed circuit board (PCB) schematic capture and layout tools

  • Understanding of buck, boost, flyback, forward, resonant LLC converter topologies, and closed-loop power supply control

  • Experience with simulation tools such as LTSpice, PSPICE, or equivalent circuit simulation platforms

Nice to haves:

  • Education: Master's or PhD in Electronics or Power Electronics

  • Work-term experience in power electronics

  • Exposure to communications hardware product development environments

  • Familiarity with power, grounding, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design standards for Telcordia and data center customers

  • Experience with Cadence design tools

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position is $62,600 - $100,000

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
