Notes: Only qualified candidates need apply. Onsite 90% , flex (1 day at home every couple weeks). Shift/Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8am - 5:00. Must be willing to be on call - After hours support once every 8 weeks (Manufacturing calls that come in, resolve any issues that come up) - 1 call per week that their own (call is 2 hours)
3 Key Consulting is hiring an Engineer for a consulting engagement with our direct client, a leading global biopharmaceutical company.
Job Description:
Out client is seeking an External Automation Engineer based in Thousand Oaks, California to augment their MCS F&E Automation team. This role will support ongoing biological processes by updating, maintaining, and improving DeltaV automation systems, and providing critical site support. The successful candidate must exhibit sound analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, exemplary communication and collaboration, and operational excellence. A proven ability to work in cross-functional teams is critical for this role.

  • Education background in automation or control background or solid technical
  • Must have knowledge level to independently coordinate with vendors to renew service agreements and resolve problems that occur quickly and effectively.
  • Impeccable communication skills for collaboration, reporting
  • Engineering experience- from college grad to 2 years
  • Must be willing to be on call

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Maintain DeltaV systems at the Thousand Oaks site including communications with vendors to renew service agreements and resolve problems that occur quickly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in DST and MCS organization to ensure consistent reliability of automation systems across company.
  • Support functional area projects focused on improving/troubleshooting process equipment
  • Lead technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting on process control issues related to instrumentation and control systems to identity root causes and develop permanent automation solutions.
  • Resolve automation related hardware issues in the field including network, controller, and bench-top equipment.
  • Support process control applications via Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Development of detailed specification, engineering documents, SOPs, and operating standards.
  • Familiarity with industry standards of batch control systems, software development life cycle methodologies, 21 CFR Part 11, and GAMP.
  • Ownership and administration of process control automation in process development pilot manufacturing settings.
  • Devise new approaches to complex problems through adaptations and modifications of standard automation technical principles.
  • Work schedule flexibility to support pilot plant operations and project requirements.
  • Support a safe working environment by complying with all necessary environmental health/safety practices, rules, and regulations.

Basic Qualifications:
Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Engineering experience
OR
Associate degree and 5 years of Engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with DeltaV systems including use of engineering tools such as DeltaV Explorer, Control Studio, User Manager, and DeltaV Operate Configure.
  • 2+ years combined experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS systems version 12 or above
  • Working knowledge on networking and virtual server architecture
  • Strong control system automation background in design, installation, programming, and validation of automated processes.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing IT networks and network communication (TCP/IP, Profibus, Ethernet, wireless, fieldbus, WAGO IO, etc.)
  • Ability to read and follow electrical and P&ID drawings.
  • Direct experience with bioprocess unit operations such as bioreactors, chromatography, filtration, et cetera.
  • Strong communication/presentation skills especially with engineering documentation.
  • Must be independent, self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task.
