Assistant Professor and Clinical Faculty Neurologist

California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM) is excited to announce a search for a clinical faculty neurologist interested in developing a career in academic neurology. This full-time clinician-educator position includes clinical work, teaching and administrative leadership. This is an academic position with opportunities for advancing the educational, research, and clinical missions of CUSM.

Essential functions

  • Clinical activity can include outpatient and/or inpatient neurology in any subspecialty, or in general neurology.
  • The clinical faculty neurologist will fulfill important teaching roles in both graduate and undergraduate medical education:
    • Teaching residents at both of CUSMโ€™s two affiliated neurology residency programs: the HCA/Riverside Community Hospital Neurology Residency Program and the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Neurology Residency Program.
    • Teaching medical students in the required third-year neurology clerkship as well as fourth-year neurology sub-internship and elective rotations and may include teaching neurology topics in small-group and/or large-group sessions within the pre-clerkship curriculum.

The annual base salary range for this position is $250,000-$275,000/year. Salary may vary based on faculty rank, the scope of the position, and qualifications of the applicant. In addition to salary, CUSM offers a comprehensive benefits package and professional development funds.

Position Purpose

This full-time clinicianโ€“educator position includes clinical care, teaching, scholarly activity, and service. This is an academic appointment with opportunities for professional development and advancement aligned with the educational, research, and clinical missions of California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM). The assistant professor serves as a role model for maintaining a professional environment and delivering high-quality clinical care in neurology.

Essential Functions

Clinical Practice and Teaching

  • Serve as a clinical faculty neurologist to include outpatient and/or inpatient neurology in any subspecialty, or in general neurology.
  • Advance the educational, research, and clinical missions of the academic medical center as they relate to all aspects of neurological care.
  • Contribute to the educational, clinical and research missions of the academic medical center through CUSM Health - Neurology.
  • Participate in teaching within the MD program, including small-group clinical case-based discussions and instructional sessions related to public/population health, professionalism, health systems, and ethics.
  • Support the education and training of resident physicians and fellows.
  • Participate in student advising in collaboration with the advising and clinical teams.
  • Conduct and foster clinical research in any area of neurology, including but not limited to investigator-initiated and/or industry-sponsored clinical trials, and/or any other clinical research in conjunction with medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Serve on committees, study sections, editorial boards or other review groups. Commit to service within the community. Participate in other service activities as defined in the Faculty Appointment and Promotion Guidelines.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Required Educational Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree with active medical license in California.
  • Board certification or eligibility in neurology.
  • Fellowship training is preferred, with subspecialty board certification/eligibility as applicable.
