How much do neurointerventional jobs pay per hour?
What is a neurointerventional?
A Neurointerventional job involves diagnosing and treating conditions of the brain, spine, and blood vessels using minimally invasive image-guided techniques. Specialists in this field, often neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, or neurologists, perform procedures such as thrombectomies for stroke, aneurysm coiling, and vertebroplasties. They work closely with a medical team to provide rapid, life-saving treatments while minimizing risks associated with open surgery.
What does a neurointerventional do?
A Neurointerventional specialist's daily responsibilities include diagnosing and treating vascular disorders of the brain and spine using minimally invasive techniques, such as thrombectomies and aneurysm coiling. You will interpret advanced imaging studies, plan treatment strategies, and perform complex endovascular procedures, often in high-acuity settings. Collaboration is frequent with neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, and critical care teams to manage patient care comprehensively. In addition to procedures, you may also participate in case conferences, consult with patients and families, and stay current on evolving neurointerventional techniques and technologies.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a neurointerventional?
To thrive as a Neurointerventional specialist, you need advanced medical training, proficiency in neuroanatomy, and board certification in neurology, neurosurgery, or radiology, often with a fellowship in neurointervention. Technical skills include expertise in operating fluoroscopy, angiography, and endovascular equipment, as well as maintaining current certifications such as ACLS and licensure relevant to neurointerventional practice. Excellent problem-solving, strong communication, and the ability to work calmly under pressure are crucial soft skills for this demanding specialty. Mastery of these abilities ensures precise, life-saving interventions and effective collaboration in complex clinical environments.

Job description
The University of Massachusetts Memorial Health System (UMMH) and UMass Chan Medical School seek a dynamic and collaborative leader for the Division Chief of Neurointerventional Radiology.
UMass Memorial Health is the leading health care provider in central Massachusetts, serving a catchment area of approximately 1 million people. UMass Memorial Medical Center is the major academic teaching hospital for UMass Chan Medical School and serves as the regional comprehensive stroke center with American Heart & Stroke association and The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval accreditations, and performs over 700 diagnostic catheter angiograms, over 175 large and medium vessel thrombectomies and over 165 endovascular treatments for intracranial aneurysms per year. The NIR division of three Neuro-interventional radiologists works collaboratively with two endovascular neurosurgeons sharing the clinical responsibilities of the service. In addition, the NIR division performs approximately 100 spine interventions per year and is supported by 6 dedicated APPs. The division has two dedicated Philips Bi-Plane angio suites and has additional access for a third bi-plane suite if needed.
UMass Memorial Health’s Radiology department is comprised of approximately 100 clinical Radiologists and 25 basic science faculty, performing 1.25 million imaging studies per year and trains 9 radiology residents and approximately 10 fellows per year.
The Division Chief will lead the integration and expansion of joint clinical services, focusing on optimizing patient outcomes, increasing patient access, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety. Key responsibilities include managing neurointerventional procedures for stroke, aneurysms, and spinal vascular conditions, as well as fostering interdisciplinary collaboration with neurosurgery, neurology, emergency medicine, and critical care teams. In addition, the division chief will work closely with the New England Center for Stroke Research (NECStR) to help direct stroke and endovascular research; as well as overseeing a varied portfolio of clinical trials research.
This leader will also mentor faculty, residents, and fellows, promote research initiatives, and contribute to the academic mission of UMMH and UMass Chan Medical School. Administrative duties include strategic planning, budgeting, faculty development, and participation in the stroke and neurovascular program leadership.
Candidates must be board certified in Diagnostic Radiology with fellowship training in Neurointerventional Radiology and demonstrate strong leadership and academic accomplishments in a multidisciplinary setting. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of clinical and leadership experience. Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
