About the Department:
Mason's Department of Bioengineering, https://bioengineering.gmu.edu, has 14 faculty members whose research are divided into four pillars: biomedical imaging and devices, computational biomedicine, neurotechnology and computational neuroscience, and biomaterials and nanomedicine. Bioengineering faculty research is funded by several federal and non-federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium. These agencies and other sources bring the department's current active research funding total to more than $32 million. Undergraduate enrollment in the thriving ABET-accredited undergraduate program totals more than 220 students; and we have over 50 graduate students enrolled in PhD and MS programs. In addition to the many collaborations across the college and the university, the department has several growing partnerships with regional centers and universities. The department is also home to two centers, the Center for Advancing Systems Science and Bioengineering Innovation and the Center for Neural Informatics Neural Structures and Neural Plasticity.
About the Position:
The George Mason University Department of Bioengineering, within the College of Engineering and Computing, invites applications for a tenure-track or a tenured faculty position beginning Fall 2026. Senior candidates with established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching will be eligible for a tenured associate professor or a professor position. Candidates to this position will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise students, participate in all aspects of the department's mission, participate in the university, college and departmental governance, and serve the profession.
Responsibilities:

- Develop an independent and externally funded research program;
- Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Supervise students, capstone projects, student internships and practicum;
- Participate in all aspects of the department's mission; and
- Serve the profession.
Required Qualifications:
- Applicants must have received a PhD in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field by the start date of the position;
- They must have experience in one or more of our four research pillars: biomedical imaging and devices, computational biomedicine, biomaterials and nanomedicine, and neurotechnology and computational neuroscience;
- The candidate should have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in Bioengineering related research; and
- A commitment to high-quality teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applicants in all areas of Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering and related areas will be given full consideration. We are particularly interested in candidates in the areas of biomedical imaging and devices, computational biomedicine, biomaterials and nanomedicine, and neurotechnology and computational neuroscience and with experience in computational and/or experimental research within the fields of microfluidics, 3D bioprinting, cell and tissue engineering, bioreactor engineering, biomanufacturing, mechanobiology, neuromechanics, sensorimotor integration, neuromodulation, soft robotics, biomedical and rehabilitation robotics, medical imaging, and biosensing. Strong candidates from other areas are encouraged to apply and will be also considered;
- Ability to build collaborations with other departments within the College and across the University; and
- Teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications.
