Network Technician


Work Model: On-site in Calgary

Type: Contract to Fulltime


Job Overview

Our client is seeking a Network Technician with hands-on networking expertise to lead an infrastructure improvement project. This role involves deployment and configuration of networking hardware, improving physical network infrastructure, and mentoring the junior technician throughout the project.


Key Responsibilities

Network Deployment & Maintenance

  • Lead network infrastructure improvements, including planning, installation, and validation
  • Install and terminate structured network cabling and patch panels
  • Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and optimize Fortinet firewalls, switches, and access points (WAPs)
  • Configure network connectivity and security settings per standards


Server Room & Physical Infrastructure

  • Support server room improvements (rack/cable organization, labeling, airflow, grounding)
  • Ensure proper documentation, asset tagging, and hardware inventory


Technical Leadership

  • Guide and support the Junior Network Technician
  • Solve complex network issues and provide escalation support
  • Collaborate with client IT team and document configuration changes for handover


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of practical experience as a network technician or similar role
  • Strong experience with structured cabling, LAN/WAN fundamentals, and network hardware
  • Proven skills with Fortinet firewalls, switches, and wireless APs
  • Solid troubleshooting and documentation skills
  • Comfortable working on-site and in server room environments


Preferred

  • Fortinet NSE or equivalent networking certifications
  • Experience leading short-term project deployments
