Position Profile
This position will be an integral part of multidisciplinary design teams that plan and execute projects for clients, including local, state, and federal governments and private industry. The selected candidate will work within our Infrastructure Market in the Civil Sitework Discipline and work on projects across our markets and disciplines. Projects include services for new facilities, site renovations, and expansions, including site geometry, grading, utility design, drainage, and stormwater management design from initial planning through design and construction.
A Day in the Life of a Civil Sitework Technician at Hanson
Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
  • Perform engineering calculations, utilize computer software for analysis and design, and work efficiently with other team members for project completion.
  • Design and support the preparation of construction plans.
  • Expected to understand and apply CAD standards to a variety of projects.
  • Will learn to process survey data and assist with plans, profiles, cross-sections, 3-D modeling, and other related requirements as part of the overall bidding/construction documents.
  • Collaborate with other technical staff.
  • Potential opportunities to learn and perform civil sitework, roadway, utility, and stormwater management design, and construction observation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We Are Looking For
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:
Education/Training:
  • AS in civil drafting or related technical program and/or
  • 2+ years of civil engineering project experience, civil sitework preferred.
  • Experience utilizing Civil 3D software highly preferred.

Technical Skills:
  • Familiar with AutoCAD (Civil3D) and/or Microstation (OpenRoads Designer).
  • Ability to prepare plans/designs with guidance from a professional engineer or supervisor.
  • Ability to perform calculations and develop engineering solutions to problems with oversight from a professional engineer or supervisor.
  • Ability to read and comprehend as-built drawings, construction specifications, codes and regulations, and technical information to develop drawings.
  • 3D surface and pipe network modeling, Autoturn, and/or GIS experience is a plus.

Soft Skills:
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to develop and present concepts.
  • Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
  • Strong oral communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Execute and adhere to quality assurance requirements.

Working at Hanson:
  • Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
  • Candidate must be willing to work overtime to meet project demands.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Salary range for this position:
The salary range for this position depending on applicable experience is:
$50,000 - $85,000
