💲 Starting Pay: $65,000 – $78,000/year
🕐 Status: Full-Time | Immediate Hire

🕔 Schedule: Open availability required, Day shift 6:00AM-4:00PM Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

As the Railyard Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the railyard terminal staff, with an emphasis on safety, performance, and productivity. You will coordinate and prepare railcars for loading and unloading, verify inbound and outbound train numbers, and manage the movement of ramp crews. In addition, you will identify operational challenges, solve problems to ensure an efficient flow within the terminal, and ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and policies. Your leadership will drive terminal staff engagement and retention, while you also coach staff on safety matters. Other duties will include administrative tasks, staff scheduling, and ensuring effective communication within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage daily railyard operations, ensuring a safe, productive, and efficient work environment.
  • Coordinate and prepare railcars for loading and unloading activities.
  • Verify numbers on all inbound and outbound trains to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Direct and manage ramp crew movements to maintain timely and effective operations.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement problem-solving strategies to ensure continuous workflow efficiency.
  • Enforce safety regulations and company policies, providing immediate coaching and corrective action when necessary.
  • Monitor and manage LPH (Lifts Per Hour) performance to ensure operational efficiency targets are met.
  • Promote employee engagement and retention by fostering a positive, performance-driven culture.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, workforce planning, and shift coordination.
  • Perform administrative duties including reporting, documentation, performance tracking, and staff training.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication across teams to ensure alignment and operational success.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in railyard operations or a related field.
  • Strong safety record with excellence in conducting and documenting safety observations.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks effectively and hold team members accountable.
  • Experience managing shifts of 10–20 employees in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proven ability to monitor, analyze, and improve LPH (Lifts Per Hour) performance metrics.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and the MS Office suite of products.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to lead by example.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screening
    • The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen. 
  • Open availability required, must be able to work Day shift 6:00AM-4:00PM Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

  • Experience managing railyard operations or similar logistical operations.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and safety protocols.
  • Strong coaching and team development skills.
