Job description

Job Summary:
Viasat is a company on a mission to deliver connections that change the world, seeking a highly skilled systems engineer specializing in networking and infrastructure systems. The role involves designing network, cloud, and server solutions, ensuring scalable and secure solutions, and developing test strategies for network and infrastructure validation.
Responsibilities:
• Design network, cloud and server solutions for cross team systems within Hybrid Platform
• Represent Hybrid Platforms in early stages of initiatives requiring services provided by platform
• Ensure scalable and secure solutions are delivered efficiently among the technical execution teams within Hybrid Platforms
• Collaborating with teams within and outside Hybrid Platforms on network and infrastructure systems needs Champion security-by-design principles for network and system level security
• Provide forward looking designs and effective utilization of services provided by teams within platform
• Develop efficient and effective test strategies with an emphasis on automation to ensure networks and infrastructure are validated with high confidence
• Creating Proof of Concepts emphasizing multi-phased designs for incremental delivery or cutover minimizing customer impact
Qualifications:
Required:
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, integration, and compute/storage/networking infrastructure
• Strong understanding of datacenter, service provider and cloud networking
• Strong understanding of cloud and on-prem physical server hardware platforms and architecture
• Experience orchestrating and deploying systems in public cloud, Kubernetes or OpenStack platforms
• Experience automating and managing complex infrastructure at scale
• Strong oral and written communication skills for audiences ranging from individual to large groups and from individual contributors to executives across a distributed team
• Experience in leading complex engineering projects, from conception to deployment, with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction
• Background with L2/L3 networking protocols and security concepts
• Ability to effectively collaborate with multi-functional teams and collaborators; Ability to apply a collaborative/consultative working and leadership style
• Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to judge situations accurately and quickly, grasp complexities, identify key issues, and apply sound judgment
• Creativity in developing verification approaches that scale through automation and validate the system at scale without the costs of a full-scale production replica
• Curiosity and awareness of what is in the market to apply strategies to inform make versus buy decisions
• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
• Travel is up to 10%
• This is a site‑based role, employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day workweek.
Preferred:
• Practical experience in design/integration/test of infrastructure of at least one of Viasat’s current or future satellite network systems
• Understanding of cloud and on prem IAM solutions
• Knowledge of or experience with virtualized data plane functions and packet processing systems
• Hands on experience with cloud deployment, networking or server hardware systems
• Experience with monitoring and configuration management tools at scale
• Ability to move forward through conflicting priorities with common sense and appreciation of collaborator positions
• Ability to create and maintain strong relationships across partner organizations
