The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) is seeking a full-time Temporary Network Engineer to join our team! This role is responsible is responsible for the ongoing analysis, installation, and configuration control of the NMCRS automated information system. This is a hybrid work position with NMCRS Headquarters in Arlington, VA. The ideal candidate has prior service in the Navy or Marine Corps.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND MAJOR TASKS:

  • Oversees technical support resources for field and Headquarters’ staff.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of Network Analysis. Prepares and conducts performance evaluations of Network Analysis.
  • Procures system software; maintains a purchase order system which provides a current record of procurements authorized, received, and paid; identifies product and vendor options, and reviews corresponding invoices for accuracy, as assigned.
  • Provides technical support of the software that comprise the automated information systems authorized by Headquarters; responds to queries concerning software problems, analyzes problems to determine their source, and provides remedial guidance or replaces failed system components, as need arises.
  • Utilizes a central troubleshooting database to log and track reported system problems to resolution and to monitor the maintenance and performance of the Society’s automated information systems; advises supervisor of outstanding support issues, supports activities of the technical staff, and system performance trends.
  • Maintains current documentation of software maintenance functions and system management procedures for the Society; provides input to supervisor on the formulation of automated operating procedures; development of user guides and training materials.
  • Assists with the implementation of approved replacement, expansion, and enhancement of programs for existing systems; drafts installation instructions and writes automated installation programs.
  • Supports requirements definition, testing, documentation, and other start-up activities associated with system development, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assists with on-site installation and training of approved Society systems, as required
  • Works cooperatively with the Headquarters’ to ensure efficient and coordinated operation of the Society’s LANs and email system; provides technical resources for LAN administration in the absence of the Headquarters’ Network Analysis
  • Performs other position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Adheres to all NMCRS policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

a. Required

  1. AA degree (or coursework equivalent) in related field.
  2. Technical training in the operation and maintenance of workstations.
  3. Technical training in the installation, setup, and/or administration Windows 11 client/2019 server.

b. Preferred

  1. BS degree (or coursework equivalent) in related field.
  2. Formal training in database programming.
  3. Technical training in communications protocols, electronic mail systems.

Technical Skills/Networking

a. Required

  1. Cisco Catalyst Switching and Routing
  2. Cisco Meraki MX, MS, MR, and SD-WAN solutions
  3. TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VLANs, QoS, DHCP, DNS, Wireless networking technologies, VPN technologies, and Network segmentation and traffic management.

b. Preferred Certifications

  1. One or more of the following:
  2. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  3. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise)
  4. Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist (ECMS)
  5. Cisco Meraki Network Associate (CMNA)

Military Experience

  1. Prior service in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps.
  2. Experience supporting:
    1. Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI)
    2. Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN)
    3. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)
    4. Navy shore-based and expeditionary network environments

Experience

a. Required

  1. Three to five years experience with the installation, operation, and maintenance of workstations, common peripherals, and LAN hardware/software.
  2. Minimum 5–8 years of network engineering experience.
  3. Minimum 3 years supporting Navy, Marine Corps, or DoD network environments.
  4. Experience with cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure.
  5. Experience supporting multi-site enterprise networking environments.
  6. Experience administering Cisco Meraki enterprise networks
  7. Experience resolving user technical support issues both on-site and remotely.
  8. Minimum three years experience supervising technical support functions/personnel.
  9. Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft 365 suite.
  10. Experience writing technical documentation.

b. Preferred

1. One year experience with database programming.

2. Experience supporting accounting software.

3. Experience supporting internet and intranet systems.

4. Adult education/training experience.

5. Experience developing specifications for and performing large-scale software upgrades.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

a. Employee works in a general office environment, with no exposure to extreme temperature changes.

b. Some travel may be required to provide technical support to field offices.

c. Some support functions may be performed outside normal working hours to accommodate global time differences.
