About Us
The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 25 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.
Job Summary
This is a professional (working) level position responsible for maintaining the operation of select LAN related network services according to higher education system policies and procedures. The position coordinates and implements network software and hardware upgrades of varying complexity. The position troubleshoots and resolves LAN/Datacenter performance, connectivity, and related network problems of varying complexity. This position is based on-site and does not offer remote work options.
Responsibilities
  1. Responds to network service interruptions.
  2. Installs new network devices.
  3. Designs, implements and manages data center and LAN switches, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers.
  4. Works with vendors to obtain quotes and procure parts, supplies and equipment.
  5. Schedules network maintenance.
  6. Configures and troubleshoots networking equipment.
  7. Monitors network utilization trends, gathers statistics, and analyzes data for proactive network
    capacity planning.
  8. Provides consultation, technical expertise, information and support to central office staff, USG
    institutions and other customers.
  9. Designs, implements, and manages enterprise data, voice, optical, and wireless networks.
  10. Works as a member of a 24 hour on-call rotation for network emergencies and outages.
  11. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. Baccalaureate degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. Over three years of related experience required.

  2. Knowledge of networking/routing infrastructure and protocols..
