The Principle Automation Engineer provides support to Tippecanoe production and support areas through applied control theory and process automation design, implementation, and maintenance. This includes hardware, software, and coding implementations for new and existing automation and date collection systems for GMP and non-GMP systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide daily production support, troubleshooting and repairs of existing process controls systems.
  • Assure that automation functionality and batch recipes are in place to support existing products, routine campaign changeovers and equipment changes.
  • Design, implement and maintain control systems safety requirements as indicated through process safety assessments.
  • Assure that all system lifecycle management requirements are implemented and maintained (PMs, Patch Management, Antivirus, Backups, spare parts, etc.)
  • Provide leadership for the automation design, development and implementation requirements associated with capital projects.
  • Design, develop and implement automation modifications and/or batch recipes in support new products introduced to the site.
  • Actively pursue and implement control system improvements that will positively impact manufacturing capability, consistency and compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership relating to process control theory, software development, S88 Batch Control standards, instrumentation, validation compliance, and process information management.
  • Provide mentoring of other process automation engineers and technicians.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Chemical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of process controls and plant experience.
  • Experience with various process control platforms. Proficiency with Emerson DeltaV required.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of control theory, automation configuration, system architecture design, alarm management, human interface design, computer system validation, S88 batch standards, and batch and continuous production control applications.
  • Exceptional computer skills. Knowledge of networking, firewalls, and server management preferred.
  • Possess both the technical knowledge and practical experience to solve process control, configuration and platform problems. Experience to lead major system upgrades and conversions.
  • Skills in successfully overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities for improvements. Keep abreast of latest technology in order to make recommendations for change.
  • Ability to influence groups without having direct supervisory responsibility
