Job Summary:
Raytheon is the world’s largest aerospace and defense company, dedicated to solving complex problems. The Network Engineer, Principal Specialist will ensure the smooth operation of classified network infrastructure, including installation, maintenance, and support of network systems.
Responsibilities:
• Maintains smooth operation of voice and data networks. Plans, evaluates, coordinates, and performs installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.
• Develop technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as switches, routers, firewalls, authentication servers, encryptors etc.
• Maintains network management software platforms.
• Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings aligning with future requirements factoring in redundancy and required network uptime.
• Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions, technical diagrams, and other documentation. Where no documentation exists, new documentation will be created.
• Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
• Assist with coordination of third-party maintenance for network equipment or with vendors for third-party support.
• Network designs that include selection of hardware and software packages, hierarchical architecture, and geographical limitations.
• Work with program engineers to resolve networking problems in tactical environments.
• Assist in the overall performance and capability of technical team through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
• Willingness and availability to work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
• Must be able to work with general supervision and follow established procedures.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience
• Experience with configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems, including software upgrades.
• Experience with current cabling and fiber standards.
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued US DoD Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Preferred:
• Willingness and availability to travel domestically as needed.
• Experience with access control list, security posture, and vendor best practices.
• Experience with Visio diagramming and design capabilities.
• Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of encryption devices.
• Effective customer service skills, including oral and written communications.
• Experience with platforms such as IP telephony, NTP servers, GemOne, and SolarWinds.
• Certifications in Security+ within 6 months and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is highly desired within a year.
• Ability to work under time constraints.
• Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
