Job description

The Network Technician will work with a team of network engineers to manage and maintain a converged Gigabit Ethernet network infrastructure supporting 66 ABG/SC and its customers under Core Services. The position installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots network infrastructure and supports classified, unclassified, and other networks while maintaining compliance with applicable DoD, Air Force, and DISA requirements.
  • Work with a team of network engineers managing and maintaining a converged Gigabit Ethernet network infrastructure supporting 66 ABG/SC and its customers under Core Services.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including UPS, with minimal supervision and short timelines using current networking technologies.
  • Provide excellent customer support for network-related services.
  • Perform daily tasks and ongoing upgrade projects involving operational support for routers, switches, IP address management, network management tools, and integration of new networks into the existing architecture.
  • Update and maintain classified and unclassified network topology maps.
  • Assist in securing network systems to meet applicable DoD, Air Force, and DISA compliance requirements.
  • Participate in system maintenance, optimization, and performance activities for classified, unclassified, and other enterprise networks.
  • Interface with vendors for warranty claims, hardware/software upgrades, and other technology updates.
  • Diagnose data troubles, open and route trouble tickets, and handle customer support cases with third-party subject matter experts through Tier 3 contracted support constructs.
  • Ensure proper and timely resolution of network support issues.
  • Maintain detailed records and follow locally established military processes and procedures to support network compliance with applicable directives, publications, and guidelines governed by external DoD agencies.
  • Research technical issues and develop solutions using strong attention to detail.
  • Support emergency operations on an as-needed basis 24/7 and respond to operational needs according to contract parameters.

Requirements
  • TACLANE certification required.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and installing Cisco and Juniper routers and switches required.
  • Strong network debugging and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Working knowledge of DHCP, NMS including Orion NPM/NCM, Cisco ISE, and Wireshark.
  • Strong working knowledge and troubleshooting skills for Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols in a VoIP environment.
  • Working knowledge of IP address management, DHCP, RADIUS, Syslog, and DNS.
  • Knowledge of W2K16/W2K19 is an added plus.
  • Good understanding of cabling, including Fiber and CAT5E.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, proxies, and UPS is required.
  • Proficient with network hardware and related software.
  • Critical-thinking skills for problem identification and resolution.
  • Ability to create and maintain operational procedures and topology maps using Visio.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility with hours is required; weekend work may be required as project or operational issues warrant.
  • Strong written, organizational, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. is required.
  • Associate degree in IT, Mathematics, or Computer Science and 3+ years of experience in a Network role; an additional 2 years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
  • DoD 8570 Certification / CompTIA Security+ required.
  • Secret-level DoD security clearance required.
