Job Title: Network Engineer Location: Arlington, VA (On-Site) Clearance: Active TS/SCI Required Company: Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) Compensation: Open Rate Position Overview Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and secure enterprise laboratory network infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations. This role is responsible for engineering and sustaining highly available, secure, and scalable network environments while supporting the integration of emerging technologies within customer lab environments. The selected candidate will work closely with systems engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and infrastructure teams to optimize network performance, strengthen security, support virtualization technologies, and implement resilient network architectures. This position requires strong expertise in enterprise networking, storage infrastructure, VPN technologies, virtual desktop environments, and network security best practices. Key Responsibilities • Design, implement, and maintain secure enterprise network infrastructure supporting laboratory and mission environments. • Engineer network solutions that improve operational performance, mission execution, and organizational decision-making. • Support the integration of new network technologies, hardware, and infrastructure within laboratory environments. • Develop, maintain, and refine network Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical documentation, and operational policies. • Assess network architectures, device configurations, and infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities and recommend security improvements. • Configure, administer, and troubleshoot enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and related networking technologies. • Provide technical support for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platforms such as Citrix, and MacOS/iOS environments. • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity, performance, routing, switching, and infrastructure issues across enterprise environments. • Implement and maintain network access controls, security policies, backup strategies, and system monitoring capabilities. • Diagnose and resolve enterprise storage and network-related issues across local and wide area networks, including replication and storage optimization. • Configure and maintain IP addressing schemes, perform network audits, and support infrastructure lifecycle management. • Monitor network health, availability, utilization, and performance while implementing improvements to optimize reliability and scalability. • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to ensure network environments remain secure, compliant, and operationally resilient. • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance network performance, automation, and security posture. Mandatory Skills • U.S. Citizenship. • Active TS/SCI clearance. • Ability to obtain DHS Suitability. • Minimum of 5+ years of directly relevant experience in network engineering, network administration, or related enterprise infrastructure support. • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking principles and network administration. • Experience configuring and supporting: Enterprise Routers, Managed Switches, Firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) • Experience administering multiple operating systems, including: Linux/Unix and MacOS • Experience supporting Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) technologies such as: Citrix and VMware • Experience implementing network security controls, access management, and system hardening. • Experience troubleshooting complex enterprise network and infrastructure issues. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. • Ability to collaborate effectively across geographically dispersed teams and customer organizations. Preferred Skills • Experience administering Palo Alto Networks firewalls. • Experience configuring and supporting Cisco switching infrastructure. • Experience with converged infrastructure solutions such as FlexPod. • Experience supporting NetApp enterprise storage platforms. • Experience with: Cisco Intersight, VMware vCenter, Infrastructure virtualization optimization and automation • Experience creating and maintaining: Network architecture diagrams, Technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise network infrastructure. • Experience performing network performance analysis, tuning, and capacity planning. • Experience hardening network devices and enterprise infrastructure to strengthen security. • Strong project management, organization, and time management skills. Education • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline. OR • High School Diploma with 7+ years of directly relevant experience in network administration, network engineering, or systems administration.
