Job description

Description
The Electrical Field Service Testing Technician is responsible for commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting medium- to high-voltage electrical power systems across commercial, industrial, and utility customer sites. This role includes performing acceptance, maintenance, and commissioning testing, protective relay testing, and system diagnostics while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards and jobsite protocols. The technician will work hands-on with switchgear, breakers, transformers, control systems, and protective relays, interpret one-line diagrams and schematics, generate detailed test reports, and interface directly with customers to provide professional technical support. This position requires regional and national travel, strong technical expertise, and a safety-first mindset.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
• 1-3+ years of field service experience in electrical testing or commissioning
• Solid understanding of circuit breakers, relays, transformers, and electrical control systems
• Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and relay logic
• Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment (Doble, OMICRON, Megger, RTS/AVTS or similar)
• Strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills
• Excellent knowledge of NFPA 70E arc flash practices and jobsite safety protocols
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Requirements:
• Perform acceptance, maintenance, and commissioning tests on electrical systems ranging from 480V to 345kV
• Conduct protective relay testing (electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based)
• Troubleshoot switchgear, transformers, breakers, switches, MCCs, and control circuits
• Generate accurate test reports in compliance with NETA, IEEE, and NFPA 70E standards
• Interface directly with customers in a professional and safety-focused manner
• Ability to travel regionally and nationally approximately 50% of the time
• Adhere to all jobsite safety policies and procedures
Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
• Prior U.S. Navy Nuclear EM or ET, or U.S. Army Prime Power Specialist background
• NETA Level II certification or NICET Level III/IV
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
• Experience with SEL, GE Multilin, ABB, Schweitzer, or Basler protective relay systems
• OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, or other safety certifications
