Nesting Programmer information

What are some common challenges Nesting Programmers face when optimizing material usage, and how can they be addressed?

Nesting Programmers often encounter challenges such as minimizing material waste, managing irregular part shapes, and accommodating machine limitations. To address these, they use advanced nesting software that leverages algorithms to arrange parts efficiently on raw materials. Collaboration with production and design teams is also vital to ensure that the nesting layouts are feasible and that any changes in part specifications are promptly integrated. Continuous learning about new software features and staying updated on best practices can further help Nesting Programmers improve outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Nesting Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Nesting Programmer, you need strong skills in CAD/CAM software, mathematical aptitude, and a background in manufacturing or mechanical engineering. Familiarity with nesting software like SigmaNEST, AutoCAD, or ProNest, as well as knowledge of CNC machinery, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help optimize material usage and collaborate with production teams. These skills are crucial for maximizing efficiency, reducing waste, and ensuring smooth workflow in fabrication processes.

What is a Nesting Programmer?

A Nesting Programmer is a specialist who creates and optimizes computer programs that arrange parts or shapes efficiently on raw materials for manufacturing processes, such as metal fabrication, woodworking, or textiles. Their main goal is to minimize material waste and maximize production efficiency by using software to 'nest' parts in the best possible layout. They work closely with CAD drawings and manufacturing machines, ensuring that cutting or fabrication is both cost-effective and meets production requirements. Nesting Programmers often need strong analytical skills and familiarity with industry-specific software. This role is crucial in industries where material costs and production speed are paramount.

What is the difference between Nesting Programmer vs CAD Programmer?

AspectNesting ProgrammerCAD Programmer
Required CredentialsTechnical certifications, experience with nesting softwareCAD software proficiency, technical certifications
Work EnvironmentManufacturing, fabrication facilitiesDesign studios, engineering firms
Industry UsageTextile, metal, woodworking industriesArchitecture, engineering, product design

While both roles involve computer-aided design, a Nesting Programmer specializes in optimizing material layouts for manufacturing, whereas a CAD Programmer focuses on creating detailed design models. The roles often overlap in technical skills but differ in application and industry focus.

Job description

Senior Full Stack Engineer

DoorLoop is property management software built for speed and the smart choice for people who take growth seriously. With offices in Miami, New York City, and Tel Aviv, we're a global company helping property owners and managers move faster, scale smarter, and get real support, real fast.

We're proudly People First. That's why we're a Certified Great Place to Work, recognized by Forbes as one of America's Best Startup Employers (2024 & 2025), and highly rated on Glassdoor.

DoorLoop is hiring two Senior Full Stack Engineers to join our Accounting Squad in Miami. The accounting product — reporting, reconciliation, journal entries / GL, integrations to QuickBooks, Plaid, and banking, plus the accounting infrastructure that powers late-fee processing and external banking transactions — is what property managers actually run their businesses on. The numbers have to be right. Your job is to make sure they are.

This is a product engineering role in everything but title. We don't need engineers who can take a tightly-scoped ticket and turn it into code — AI tools handle a lot of that today. We need engineers who can decide what should be built given the existing system, the customers running their books on us, and the consequences of being wrong. The thousand small product promises a property management platform makes — that an owner statement matches the bank, that a late fee posts on the right day, that a journal entry reconciles to the cent — those promises don't live in any AI prompt. They live in your judgment.

There's a second, honest reality you should know up front. Most of DoorLoop's R&D is in Israel, 7 hours ahead. You'll be one of the first three engineers in our Miami office (joining your hiring manager and the rest of the squad). In practice, the Miami pod has become the team that absorbs cross-functional urgency during US business hours — escalations from CS, urgent fixes Sales needs for a deal, Risk policy questions that can't wait for Israel to wake up. We don't formalize this as a coverage model, but we hire with the expectation that you'll be comfortable switching context between deep accounting work and cross-functional firefights.

If both of those sound interesting — accounting depth and operating in the messy real-world seam between engineering and the rest of the business — keep reading.

You'll own a cross-cutting accounting subdomain end-to-end — design, ship, operate, measure, iterate — and you'll do it with AI-augmented workflows that let you compound your output well beyond what manual coding alone makes possible.

Responsibilities

  • Decide what should be built, not just what could be built. The AI tools you'll use can recommend options, draft requirements, and identify risks — you'll be the one weighing the trade-offs they can't be accountable for.
  • Own a piece of DoorLoop's accounting product: integrations (QuickBooks, Plaid, banking), reconciliation, reporting, journal entries / GL, or accounting infrastructure (late-fee processing, external banking transactions, background job pipelines).
  • Translate accounting and operational asks into user stories with explicit success metrics, then ship and verify the metric moved.
  • Take production seriously: short release cycles, real observability, fast incident response, postmortems that change behavior. Accounting bugs are customer-trust bugs.
  • Absorb cross-functional urgency during US business hours when the Israel team can't reach it. Switch context cleanly between accounting deep-work and a Sales escalation without dropping balls on either.
  • Operate async-first with the Israel R&D team. Write Slack updates, PR descriptions, and design docs that they can act on at 6am their time.
  • Use AI tools as a daily part of your workflow — for code, tests, reviews, log triage, design exploration, ticket triage — and continuously raise the leverage of the team around you.
  • Push back constructively when a stakeholder's preferred solution is the wrong one, and stay invited back next time.

Tech stack

Node/TypeScript, React, Mongo, AWS, Nest, Express, NX

Requirements

  • Have ≥ 5 years of professional fullstack experience shipping production systems.
  • Have owned at least one significant domain end-to-end — including the on-call pager.
  • Treat numbers as sacred. Whether you came from fintech or not, you can describe a system you worked on where "looks right" wasn't good enough — and what you did about it.
  • Are AI-fluent: AI tools are part of your daily workflow, and you can describe specifically how that workflow has changed your output and where you've been burned.
  • Are excellent at async written communication. You'd rather write a clear paragraph than schedule a sync.
  • Are comfortable switching context between deep work and operational urgency. Multi-track work doesn't burn you out.
  • Want to be one of the first engineers building DoorLoop's Miami presence.

Benefits

  • Unlimited paid time off: take unlimited personal, sick, and vacation days.
  • 401(k): plan for retirement with 4% matching and instant vesting.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance: we offer full medical coverage for employees through United Healthcare and full dental and vision coverage through Guardian, with 25% coverage for dependents across all plans.
  • Life insurance: $100,000 policy fully covered by DoorLoop.
  • Disability insurance: short- and long-term disability insurance fully covered by DoorLoop.
  • Paid parental leave: paid maternity and paternity leave for birth and adoption.
  • Monthly stipend: a dedicated budget for work-related expenses.
  • Best-in-class equipment: Get a company laptop and all the top-tier tools to set you up for success.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on a candidate's qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
