Nesting Engineer information

What is a nesting engineer?

A Nesting Engineer is responsible for optimizing the arrangement of parts on raw materials, such as metal sheets, to minimize waste and improve manufacturing efficiency. They use specialized CAD/CAM software to generate cutting patterns for CNC machines. This role requires knowledge of manufacturing processes, material properties, and cost optimization. Nesting Engineers work closely with production teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency in fabrication.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a nesting engineer?

Nesting Engineers spend their days preparing and optimizing cutting patterns for sheet metal or other raw materials using advanced CAD/CAM and nesting software. They collaborate closely with production planners, machine operators, and quality assurance teams to ensure that designs are not only efficient but also manufacturable to required specifications. Regular tasks include analyzing job orders, updating project files, troubleshooting design issues, and making real-time adjustments for manufacturing constraints. This role involves both independent technical work and active communication with various departments to keep production running smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the nesting engineer position, and why are they important?

A successful Nesting Engineer needs a strong background in mechanical engineering, CAD/CAM software proficiency, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and materials. Familiarity with specialized nesting software such as SigmaNEST, AutoCAD, or TruTops, and often certifications in CAD or sheet metal fabrication are typically required. Attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork abilities help Nesting Engineers excel in optimizing production layouts. These skills ensure efficient material usage, minimize waste, and contribute to streamlined manufacturing operations.

Job description

Assistant ManagerThe Nest | Englewood, NJ
Full-Time | Growth Opportunity

The Nest is looking for an energetic, organized, warm, and community-minded Assistant Manager to help run the day-to-day operations of our growing family social club.
About The Nest
The Nest is a modern family social club and parent hub designed to give families a place to gather, connect, work, relax, and play without having to host at home.
We created The Nest because families needed something that didn’t quite exist yet. A welcoming space where parents can grab a great cup of coffee, meet other families, attend a class or event, get some work done, and let their children play nearby.
Our weekdays include open play, drop-ins, classes, meetups, workshops, fitness, parent education, and community programming. Weekends are primarily reserved for special events, parties, and private programming.
Regular weekday hours are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (arrival expected 9:30am, departure depends on activities and cleaning procedures), Monday through Friday, with weekend hours based on scheduled events.

We are looking for someone who wants to be part of building something that is superbly needed in our community and who is excited to grow with us.
The Role
The Assistant Manager will take ownership of the day-to-day operations of The Nest and help ensure that every family who walks through our doors has an experience that feels welcoming, organized, safe, clean, and easy.
This is not a sit-behind-a-desk position. You will be part host, part operations manager, part community builder, part salesperson, and part problem solver.
You will work closely with ownership to keep The Nest running smoothly while also helping us grow memberships, partnerships, events, programming, and the overall community.
What You'll Own
Daily Operations
  • Open and oversee The Nest during regular operating hours
  • Manage daily drop-ins, member visits, reservations, and space capacity
  • Welcome families and help create a warm, friendly environment
  • Maintain an organized daily schedule of classes, events, meetups, and rentals
  • Help troubleshoot scheduling, booking, or customer experience issues
  • Make sure the space is ready for each day's programming
  • Assist with event setup and transitions throughout the day
Coffee, Supplies & Inventory
  • Maintain and restock the coffee and beverage station
  • Monitor inventory and reorder coffee, paper goods, cleaning supplies, children's supplies, and other operational necessities
  • Make sure everything families and staff need is readily available
  • Identify upcoming supply needs before we run out
Cleanliness & Space Management
  • Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and inviting space
  • Manage ongoing cleanup throughout the day
  • Ensure play areas, tables, bathrooms, back rooms, and shared spaces remain tidy
  • Coordinate deeper cleaning needs when necessary
  • Help reinforce family expectations around cleaning up after themselves and respecting the space
Safety
  • Help oversee children and families throughout the space while remembering that The Nest is a parent-present environment
  • Monitor capacity and ensure the space never becomes overcrowded
  • Identify potential safety concerns and address them immediately
  • Ensure toys, equipment, furniture, and play areas remain safe and properly maintained
  • Help enforce The Nest's policies in a friendly but confident manner
Vendors, Instructors & Partners
  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for instructors, vendors, community partners, and renters
  • Help coordinate schedules, room setup, arrival information, and programming needs
  • Maintain strong relationships with our growing network of local partners
  • Help identify new instructors, businesses, organizations, and brands that could be a great fit for The Nest
Marketing, Membership & Sales
  • Help promote memberships, classes, events, parties, and programming
  • Speak confidently with prospective members and help explain the different ways families can use The Nest
  • Support membership sales and retention
  • Help develop partnerships with local businesses, schools, parent groups, instructors, and community organizations
  • Assist with social media content, flyers, event promotion, emails, and other marketing initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to increase traffic, memberships, event participation, rentals, and revenue
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal Assistant Manager is someone who:
  • Is genuinely warm, friendly, and comfortable talking to people
  • Loves families and enjoys being around young children
  • Can create a welcoming environment while also maintaining boundaries and policies
  • Is exceptionally organized and able to juggle multiple things at once
  • Notices when something needs to be cleaned, restocked, fixed, or handled without waiting to be asked
  • Is comfortable taking ownership and making decisions
  • Is dependable and punctual
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Is comfortable selling memberships, events, and services without being overly salesy
  • Is creative and excited about marketing and community building
  • Can work independently while also collaborating closely with ownership
  • Understands that in a small and growing business, everyone occasionally jumps in wherever they are needed
  • Wants more than "just a job" and is excited about helping build something
Experience in hospitality, retail management, children's programming, events, fitness/wellness, community management, sales, or small business operations is a plus.
The Opportunity
The Nest is still growing, which means this position can grow too.

For the right person, there is significant opportunity to take on additional responsibility across operations, programming, partnerships, events, membership growth, marketing, and ultimately overall management of The Nest.
We want someone who can come in, learn the business, take ownership, bring ideas to the table, and eventually help us answer the question:
"How can we make The Nest even better?"

If you are someone who loves people, thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, notices the little things, and wants to help build a meaningful community for local families, we would love to meet you.
