Job description

IMS Care Center. is currently searching for a professional, compassionate and knowledgeable individual to fill the position of Nerve Conduction Study Tech in our Neurology clinic. The NCS Tech is responsible for providing support by assisting patients and their family members before, during and after their visit. The NCS Tech will work alongside doctors, nurses and other clinical personnel, performing functions that help the clinic run smoothly.

The NCS Technician will perform Nerve Conduction studies when requested by a physician. As part of the testing process, this tech will gather a patient's medical history, explain testing procedures, and prepare the patient for the procedure. During testing, the technician monitors the patient's status and notes any abnormalities. After testing they report findings to the provider for further analysis.  Instill the IMS mission, vision and values in the work performed.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather a patient's medical history, explain testing procedures, and prepare the patient for the procedure
  • Position electrodes, apply surface electrodes, administer electrical stimulation, and record nerve responses (amplitudes, latencies)
  • Explain procedures to patients, review medical history, and ensure comfort throughout the test
  • Monitors the patient's status including heart rate and other vital signs and note any abnormalities
  • After testing is complete, analyze and document electrical signals to ensure data quality, distinguishing between normal and abnormal results and report on findings to the physician for further analysis
  • Maintain, sanitize, calibrate, and troubleshoot NCS equipment
  • Analyze, identify and document procedures to maximize patient outcome
  • Ensure an accurate and readable recording using deductive reasoning to troubleshoot minor problems and make adjustments as needed during the procedure
  • Assist with activities to improve department processes, facilitate testing and maintain quality to achieve optimal patient results
  • Travel to rural sites and other locations under IMS Care Center for scheduled NCS patients
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  •  Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  •  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  •  Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  •  Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion
  •  Must have knowledge of and always follow HIPAA guidelines and secure Protected Health Information
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner

Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  •  ABEM Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) or AAET Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T) certification preferred
  • Minimum six months of experience working as an NCS or EMG tech in lieu of the certification is acceptable
