Job description
Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES), an industry leader in environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services, seeks an Environmental Consultant – Business Development to drive growth across our environmental services portfolio in the Atlanta, GA area. This role combines client relationship development, business growth, and technical project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and expand client relationships with oil & gas, industrial, power & utility, and commercial clients while supporting growth of existing accounts and internal teams.
- Lead initiatives that advance GES’s environmental service lines, including sales, program management, and project execution.
- Identify, pursue, and secure environmental projects by preparing proposals, leading sales presentations, and representing GES at industry trade shows and professional organizations.
Manage and deliver environmental permitting, including:
Stream cross sections, long profiles, BEHI/NBS, and environmental sampling (chemical/biological).
Stream assessments (perennial, intermittent, ephemeral) and stream reach condition studies.
401/404 permitting documents and agency coordination.
- Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (CWA, RHA Section 10, ESA, NHPA, NEPA, etc.).
- Utilize or oversee Rosgen Natural Channel Design methods (Levels I–IV) and other natural channel design approaches.
- Support modeling and permitting efforts (HEC/HEC RAS, FEMA CLOMR/LOMR).
- Prepare and deliver full plan sets for NCD projects requiring IRT, state, or local approvals.
- Cross-sell GES services including permitting, site characterization, remediation, PFAS/emerging contaminants, ecological services, vapor intrusion mitigation, air quality, and brownfields redevelopment.
- Manage high-visibility projects, including scope definition, permitting, compliance support, and contract development/negotiation.
- Publish thought leadership, present at industry conferences, and generate new business through professional networks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in client development, proposal generation, and sales presentations.
- Strong technical background in environmental permitting, assessment, and/or remediation.
- Proven success in revenue generation and client development with established industry and regulatory contacts.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical writing skills.
- Professional certifications/licensure (PE, PG, CPG, PhD, etc.) highly preferred.
- Willingness to travel to client sites, industry trade shows, and technical meetings as needed.
