Job description

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technologyhas an opening in the Office of Public Safety for a Public Safety Officer. Wehave been ranked No. 1 among U.S. engineering colleges by the U.S. News &World Report Best Colleges Guide for the last 27 consecutive years.

Our Public Safety Officers providepersonal, equipment, and real property security for faculty, staff, students,and visitors on Institute property. As a Public Safety Officer, you willprovide escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed,and perform routine security and public safety patrol duties on campus. Youwill remain alert to emergency situations and provide a first-line response,emergency management, and/or referral if required. Other duties asassigned to meet the Institute's business needs.

Qualified candidates will hold anassociate degree in criminology or related field plus a minimum of five years'experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, emergency services, ormilitary experience required. In lieu of a higher education degree, a highschool diploma and seven or more years' of experience in a public safety fieldwill be accepted. Higher-level degrees in relatable fields may be considered inlieu of years of experience. Successful completion of pre-employment screeningsthat include a background check, motor vehicle report, and physical abilityassessment are required of the selected finalist(s).

In addition to the aforementionedqualifications, preferred candidates will demonstrate an ability to:successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision; communicateeffectively, both orally and in writing; complete routine paperwork; understandand follow specific instructions and procedures; react calmly and effectivelyin emergency situations; understand, follow, and enforce safety codes,regulations, and procedures; ability to detect problems and report informationto appropriate personnel. Preferred candidates will also have stronginterpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation; skill inperforming building security and lock procedures; knowledge of public securitycodes, policies, and regulations; skill in providing protection services toindividuals on campus.

Pay Range is 18.50/hour - 22.50/hour. Pay iscompetitive. A higher pay may be negotiated based on experience andqualifications.
