IIA is seeking a skilled NDT Level II RT/PT Technician to join our Danville, VA facility.


Our testing lab in Danville, located at the Center of Excellence (AM COE), provides on-site qualification and component testing to validate the quality of additive manufactured parts for submarines. IIA is part of a team of industrial partners, industry experts and government entities working together to support the AM COE in its efforts to accelerate and scale defense manufacturing.

Position Summary

The NDT Level II technician is responsible for performing nondestructive evaluations and production activities, ensure testing activities meet clientโ€™s requirements at IIAโ€™s Danville, Va. Testing Facility. The Level II in the applicable NDT methods of Radiographic Testing (RT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and / or other methods based on the associated skill level, will assess the integrity of the item inspected with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications; and report the results to the applicable personnel. Additionally, the Level II will support other associated tasks such as job preparation, coordination, and reporting as directed by the Project Manager or NDT Manager, Level III.


Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and quality procedures, laws, regulations, and customer requirements. Own personal and overall job site safety stopping the job if required due to unsafe conditions or lack of compliance to quality requirements. Perform day to day and routine safety observations and inspections.
  • Perform pre-job preparations of equipment, job walkdowns, procedural reviews, etc. as required by the specific work scope.
  • Perform hands on NDT / NDE work in accordance with appropriate codes and specifications, interfacing with the customer and assist in training for Technicians, Assistants / Apprentices based on the specific work scope. Ensure work and used materials are compliant with manufacturer and customer specifications.
  • Ensure sample preparation of materials and components for NDE during manufacturing.
  • Perform NDE work as needed
  • Make accept/reject decisions for defect severity and determine disposition based on code, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Perform post-job equipment shutdown, job walkdowns, procedural reviews, etc. as required by the specific work scope for the completed work and future work scheduled / planned.
  • Complete applicable job reports and/or other paperwork as required / instructed on or before the required date as communicated by the Project Director or NDT Manager, Level III


Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of NDT work experience
  • NDT Level II Certifications RT (X-Ray Film, CR) and PT (Additional Methods a Plus)
  • Understand mechanical concepts and spatial relationships.
  • Understand basic physical NDT principles, processes, and limitations.
  • Knowledge of basic algebra and trigonometry.
  • Able to read, comprehend, and prepare technical specifications and procedures.
  • Good interpersonal skills for daily interaction with customers and fellow employees.
  • Ability to use basic Office software and Outlook to generate service reports and communicate within the company including skills to navigate web-based service literature and programs.
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driverโ€™s license.
  • Take and pass all pre-employment screening, including background and initial and future random drug screening.
  • Meet or exceed quality program requirements for work experience on the applicable method and total work experience for the NDT method and level.
  • Provide verifiable evidence of previous certification, completion of ASNT recommended training program for applicable method, or have successfully completed the training programs and applicable exams.

  • Familiar with Additive Manufacturing (DED Wire and Laser Bed Powder Fusion)
  • Knowledge of โ€œcastingโ€ type radiography vs welds.
  • Familiarity with DICONDE requirements and implementation
  • Familiarity with CAD software and 3D modeling
  • Desire to learn, or experience with, advanced RT modalities such as CR, DR, CT, AI etc. within certified methods
  • Desire to learn and grow personal knowledge base
