Job description

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine -Football, coordinate, at a high level, athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation to UCLA varsity student-athletes. Organize injury prevention programs. Share responsibility of Athletic Training services for all sports and student-athletes as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine. This position will be assigned specific coverage for Football and/or other sports as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine - Football. Specific coverage will be determined upon review of applications. Athletic Training services to include: coordination of physical exams for team, evaluation, treatment and documentation of injuries, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, and supervise and counsel sports medicine student interns assigned to practice and game coverage. Communicate and document athletes' progress to athletic training staff, physicians, conditioning staff and coaches. Maintain written and computerized documentation on all athletes' injuries, treatments and rehabilitation. Refer injured athletes to UCLA team physicians as appropriate. Administrative and other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.

Qualifications
  • Previous NCAA Division I experience. (Preferred)
  • Previous experience with NCAA Division 1 Football, Professional Football, Hockey, or other contact sport. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics as related to musculoskeletal athletic injuries of the peripheral joints and spine. (Required)
  • Ability to perform clinical and sideline evaluation of injury and provide immediate management, as well as design and implement basic treatment programs. (Required)
  • Ability to operate therapeutic modalities and exercise equipment. (Required)
  • Ability to write and maintain accurate and concise evaluations and treatment records. (Required)
  • Working knowledge and basic skill in therapeutic exercise techniques and functional progression programs. (Required)
  • Working knowledge and basic skill in application of peripheral joint/soft tissue techniques, protective wraps, tape, and bracing devices. (Required)
  • Ability to communicate with and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Staff, Physicians, Coaches, Student-Athletes, and outside vendors through clear and concise correspondence and reports. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of common systemic illnesses and management which may interfere with athletic participation. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in progressing athletes' rehabilitation programs independently or in consultation with Staff Physical Therapist or Team Physicians. (Required)
  • Ability to perform under difficult situations and maintain composure in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. (Required)
  • Ability to operate a computer with working knowledge of various computer software systems: Skills necessary to perform tasks with speed and accuracy with Microsoft Office applications and Smartabase Injury Tracking Software. (Required)
  • Knowledge of Departmental, University, Big Ten, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations. (Preferred)

  • Education and relevant experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. (Required)
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)
  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
  • Certified as an Athletic Trainer in good standing with the NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification). (Required)
  • Must be CPR/AED certified. (Required)

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
  • Ability to work odd hours, nights, weekends and holidays as needed. (Required)
  • 10% Ability to travel for team activities, including home and away competitions.
