The Quality Director provides leadership and direction to Construction Site Quality Managers and is responsible for ensuring company quality policies, procedures, and ASME/NBIC programs are effectively implemented, maintained, and continuously improved across projects. This role oversees quality performance across field and supplier environments, ensures compliance with customer and Code requirements, and develops the people, programs, and processes needed to support high-quality project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support Construction Site Quality Managers across active projects.
  • Ensure quality policies, procedures, and ASME/NBIC programs are properly implemented and maintained.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of quality programs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure the organization is staffed with qualified, trained, and certified quality personnel.
  • Stay current on industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices related to quality in power construction.
  • Serve as program manager for corporate ASME, NBIC, and AISC quality programs, including coordination of Joint Reviews and quality manual updates.
  • Oversee welding, NDE, and quality documentation activities to ensure compliance with customer specifications and applicable Code requirements across all disciplines.
  • Manage and develop Project Quality Managers, providing hands-on guidance related to field quality controls, execution, and best practices.
  • Conduct jobsite audits and supplier shop evaluations.
  • Hire, train, and certify field QC and NDT personnel, including VT/PT Level II personnel in accordance with SNT-TC-1A.
  • Lead the nonconformance and corrective action process, including NCRs and CARs.
  • Track and report Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts.
  • Participate in bid reviews, estimating support, and weekly project calls.
  • Work directly with customers, Authorized Inspectors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve quality-related issues.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical training required.
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, or equivalent, required.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME Section I, NBIC, and related codes governing new construction, repairs, and alterations.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex quality issues involving multiple stakeholders, including field teams, customers, Authorized Inspectors, and suppliers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and supplier facilities as needed.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in welding, inspection, and quality control within power plant construction and repair environments.
  • Strong experience with boilers, HRSGs, pressure parts, and ASME Section I/NBIC work required.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate teams across multiple project sites nationwide.
  • Broad knowledge across construction disciplines with the ability to support quality requirements in varied project environments.
