Coachella Valley Lakers

The Coachella Valley Lakers are the newest addition to the rapidly growing sports and entertainment landscape in the Coachella Valley. Formerly known as the South Bay Lakers, the team serves as the official NBA G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic and successful franchises in global sports. Founded in 2006 as the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the organization has built a strong reputation for developing elite talent, supporting the NBA pipeline, and delivering a high level of competition within the G League.

Backed by the championship legacy and global brand of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Coachella Valley Lakers embody a culture rooted in excellence, innovation, and player development. This legacy, combined with Oak View Group's success in launching Acrisure Arena and the Coachella Valley Firebirds in 2022, created a powerful foundation for continued growth. This foundation positions the Coachella Valley Lakers to build on an established track record while supporting the development of future NBA talent.

The transition to the Coachella Valley marks an exciting new chapter for the franchise, aligning with the region's emergence as a premier destination for sports and live entertainment. Since the opening of Acrisure Arena in 2022, the desert has experienced significant momentum, highlighted by the success of the Coachella Valley Firebirds and a growing calendar of world-class events.
