Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.
Pima County Conservation Lands & Resources Department seeks a Natural Resources Program Coordinator to lead the operation of Gilbert Ray Campground at Tucson Mountain Park, a 20,000-acre natural resource park in Tucson, Arizona. The scenic Sonoran Desert landscape is the site of the Gilbert Ray Campground where RV campers may reserve overnight stays throughout the year. Peak occupancy at the campground occurs from January until April although the campground is open all year.
Essential FunctionsBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in management, public or business administration, natural resources, conservation biology, botany, wildlife management, rangeland management, environmental science or a field closely related to Natural Resource/Parks and Recreation as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND one year of experience coordinating, monitoring, and/or administering program activities or providing professional-level administrative support for a program or specialized work unit. OR: One year of experience with Pima County in a Natural Resources Program Specialist or related professional administrative classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Preferred QualificationsPima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental InformationLicenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. ValidAZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Arizona Certified Pesticide Applicator license is required for Natural Resources Program Coordinator positions where treatment of invasive species by pesticides is required, as determined by the department head. Special Notice ItemsThe County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. Physical/Sensory RequirementsMust be able to withstand the rigors of off-trail travel in remote locations for one or more days per week while carrying a heavy backpack and/or tools, often in extreme temperatures and in steep desert terrain. Spends some time in an office setting working at a computer station. Must be capable of driving for long distances at a time, up to 3 hours one-way. Must be able to use County-provided smart phone or other mobile device to collect geospatial data in the field. May be required to operate heavy equipment, drive with a trailer in tow, or drive ATVs/UTVs in field settings. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy objects. Action Activity - bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, and stooping; Motion Activity - grasping and fine movement; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, on a radio, behind themselves and equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone; Vision - operate a motor vehicle, distinguish colors, have depth perception, and peripheral vision.
Working ConditionsThe Natural Resources Program Coordinator operates in both a professional office setting and in an outdoor field setting. Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position. This position is eligible for occasional telework at the discretion of the hiring department.
