Job Summary

We are seeking an Engineer I to support the planning, design, and development of natural gas distribution infrastructure projects for Southern Company Gas. This role will support gas storage, fueling station, pipeline, and mechanical equipment projects while working closely with engineering, construction, and operations teams.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support planning and design of natural gas distribution infrastructure.
  • Work on gas storage and gas fueling station projects.
  • Assist with design of pipeline components and related systems.
  • Support planning and design of mechanical equipment and components.
  • Perform system balance evaluations to identify system constraints, low points, and potential solutions.
  • Develop and evaluate engineering solutions for system issues.
  • Provide engineering oversight and support during construction activities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist with technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, General Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of progressive engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
