What is a National Solar Power technician?

A National Solar Power technician is a professional who installs, maintains, and repairs solar power systems at a national or large-scale level. Their responsibilities include inspecting sites, setting up solar panels, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring systems meet safety and efficiency standards. These technicians often work for large solar energy companies or government projects that operate across multiple regions. The role requires knowledge of electrical systems, renewable energy technologies, and sometimes traveling to different project sites. Training typically includes technical courses, certifications, and hands-on experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solar Power Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solar Power Project Manager, you need expertise in renewable energy systems, project management, and a relevant engineering or technical degree. Job description

About Us
ย
Solar Landscape is the leading commercial rooftop solar developer in the U.S. Only 4% of commercial rooftops host solar today โ€” weโ€™re changing that, fast. Commercial rooftop solar is the fastest, smartest way to build new clean power โ€” delivering megawatts of generation in months, not years, and powering Americaโ€™s energy and future right where itโ€™s needed most. By turning rooftops into local power plants, weโ€™re reshaping how โ€” and how fast โ€” energy gets built in the U.S.
ย
Recognized as the #1 Distributed Generation Developer by New Project Media, the #1 National Commercial Rooftop Solar Developer by Solar Power World, and winner of the U.S. Department of Energyโ€™s Grand Prize for Clean Energy, Solar Landscape is defining the future of energy generation in America.
ย
Headquartered in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Solar Landscape has offices in Chicago, Baltimore, and New York City and operates in over a dozen states nationwide.
ย
We move fast, solve hard problems, and take our work seriously โ€” but never ourselves. We value clear thinking, accountability, and execution. At the same time, weโ€™re collaborative by default, and believe the best work happens when people enjoy working together. Our team is made up of smart, grounded people who show up for each other โ€” whether thatโ€™s troubleshooting a system design or catching up over lunch.
ย
If youโ€™re looking to do meaningful work in a high-performance environment โ€” and be part of the team reshaping how energy gets built in the U.S. โ€” weโ€™d love to meet you.
ย
About The Role

We are seeking a Senior Asset Manager to join our Asset Management team. This position is focused on the operational performance of our growing portfolio of commercial solar assets. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, excellent analytical skills, and experience managing the performance of distributed solar assets. The Senior Asset Manager will report to the Director of Asset Management and will work closely with the Operations and Maintenance (O&M), Engineering, and Finance teams.

The Senior Asset Manager will be responsible for a portfolio of operating projects. This portfolio is expected to grow over time as the company expands and as the Senior Asset Managerโ€™s experience and responsibilities increase. The role includes monitoring system performance, analyzing trends, managing work orders, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal production and system uptime.

In addition to portfolio oversight, the Senior Asset Manager will serve as a functional team lead within the Asset Management group, supporting the development of junior team members and driving continuous improvement across portfolio performance, reporting, and internal processes. This role is expected to take on increasing leadership responsibility over time as the Asset Management function expands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor assigned solar power plants using platforms like Also Energy, configuring alerts and dashboards to ensure performance at or above expected production.
  • Investigate underperformance, identify root causes, and recommend or initiate corrective actions.
  • Create and manage work orders within Microsoft Dynamics; close out completed tasks and maintain accurate records.
  • Work with Operations & Maintenance Team (O&M) to investigate system performance issues, coordinate maintenance plans, and improve system performance.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (Operations, Engineering, Finance, Sales) and external stakeholders to support ongoing asset health and company objectives.
  • Review and interpret field data including site photos, drone imagery, and IR scans to support issue resolution.
  • Track maintenance activities (preventive and corrective) and oversee vendor performance and warranty claim progress.
  • Prepare regular reporting deliverables, including weekly updates and formal monthly/quarterly performance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface with system owners, landlords, and host customers as required in the management of solar installations.
  • Support specialized projects and efforts for both projects under management as well as requests from other departments within Solar Landscape.
  • Lead efforts to optimize and improve internal processes, tools, and templates related to reporting, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Support training and mentorship of Asset Analysts.
  • Serve as day-to-day team lead for Asset Analysts, including workload prioritization, performance feedback, and development support in coordination with the Director of Asset Management.
  • Participate in system transition from construction to operations, ensuring proper onboarding and documentation.
  • Accountable for portfolio-level performance KPIs, proactively identifying trends and implementing initiatives to improve production, response times, and asset reliability.
  • Act as portfolio lead in the Directorโ€™s absence and support cross-functional decision-making related to asset performance and operational priorities.
Requirements:
  • 4-year degree required; B.S. in a STEM field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the solar industry, with direct experience in system performance management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets.
  • Experience with solar monitoring platforms (e.g., AlsoEnergy) and work order/CRM systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Familiarity with PV system components, failure modes, and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and project documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Project-oriented with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to conduct site visits or support remote investigations as required.
Salary will vary depending on your location and job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive-based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
