Description

Summary:
Produces mammographic images under the clinical direction of a Radiologist. Takes responsibility for film quality, patient care, safety, sterile technique and providing education for staff and students. Participates in other necessary activities in support of departmental operations. Must meet current MQSA (FDA) regulations for a practicing mammographer.
Responsibilities:
1. Produces routine mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, include, but not limited to: Obtains history and/or examination data and evaluates for contraindicating conditions; Reviews Radiologist's report; Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices; Adjusts and controls equipment; Reviews film for clinically acceptable results and releases patients; Prepares room by gathering and setting up equipment, viewing prior images, and any supplies required.
2. Applies radiation safety guidelines and patient protection guidelines.
3. Provides emotional support, comfort, general assistance, and information to patients.
4. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.
5. Coordinates or collaborates with physicians and staff.
6. As assigned, provides instruction in the basic theory, technical skills, and application of mammography procedures to other employees, new employees, and students.
7. Operates and maintains mammographic equipment, computers, and other departmental equipment.
8.partcipates in quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
9. As assigned, provides instruction in the basic theory, technical skills, and application of mammogram procedures to other employees, new employees, and students.

Education Requirements:
Associate degree in Other. Graduation from an accredited school or program of Radiologic Technology.
Must be mammography registered within 12 months of hire.
License/Certification Requirements:
Current registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, with up-to-date continuing education credits
Current advanced certification in Mammography through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Professional Experience Requirements:
2 years of Radiographer and/ or Mammographer experience is preferred, but not required.
