Responsibilities
Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for our Nursing Student Apprentice Program (NAP).
The Nursing Student Apprentice provides supportive patient care services under the direction of nursing leadership within a structured behavioral health environment. This role is designed to offer hands-on clinical exposure while reinforcing a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused patient experience. The apprentice works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and participates in patient care activities, observation, and documentation. This position serves as a developmental role within a structured pipeline to transition qualified candidates into Registered Nurse (RN) positions following program completion and licensure.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for conducting safety checks and ensuring that supervision is conducted at 15-minute intervals, as noted in special precautions, or in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines as needed.
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer services.
  • Document timely, accurate and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record.
  • Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation. Assist with follow-up and paperwork as required on incidents and events that may take place in the facility.
  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups which cover a variety of topics including social skills, coping skills, anger management and independent living skills.
  • May oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration and changing bed linens.
  • May obtain patient's vital signs, height and weight as assigned and document in patient record.
  • Document patient progress and relevant information on notes and report to RN.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position .
Pathway to Registered Nurse (RN) Position & Commitment Incentive:
  • Eligible for RN or Graduate Nurse positions upon completion and licensure
    • Priority interview status for RN roles
    • Access to mentorship and clinical development
    • Opportunity for Nurse Residency participation
  • Eligible for NCLEX reimbursement and/or sign-on incentives
    • Tuition Reimbursement.
    • Assistive Loan Repayment.
  • Contingent upon licensure and full-time RN employment
    - May require 18-24month employment commitment
    - Repayment required if agreement terms are not met

Qualifications
Apprenticeship Eligibility Requirments:
  • Must be a Junior or Senior in a nursing program (or equivalent clinical phase)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25 required and must remain in good academic standing
  • Must be in good standing with their nursing program
  • Must meet all pre-employment and onboarding requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Systems.
