Job description

Overview - Position is 1st shift

The Yard Material Handler works with the yard team in accurate and proper processes to complete assigned Department duties timely and safely. As the Yard Material Handler, the position will also involve working outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions

** Job Responsibilities**

  • Communicates with buyer on rejected/downgrade loads
  • Communicates with sales on material ready to ship
  • Loads, unloads, and moves material within or near plant, yard or work site using forklift or Combi lift in a safe and efficient manner
  • Loads materials into or on trucks and installs strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit
  • Unloads products with forklift and takes to designated areas in yard
  • Uses yard truck to move trailers into and out of docks, to scales to weigh in, and to lot locations. No highway or off-site travel required
  • Checks and labels product when removing from trailers
  • Sets up, pulls labels and loads log/billet trailers
  • Safely operates and maintains equipment to carry out job duties to ensure a safe work environment
  • Keeps work zone clean and orderly so that the yard is a safe and clean work environment
  • Performs other required tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 1-2 years manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience driving large yard trucks, grain trucks, or similar type vehicles
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Follows all company policies and procedures
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and be able to multi-task in time-sensitive environment
  • Must be able to constantly carry, bend, reach, climb, and stand
  • Ability to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
