What is a nanny mom?

A Nanny Mom is a caregiver who brings their own child to work while looking after another family's children. This arrangement allows the nanny to earn an income while also caring for their own child. Families may benefit from this setup as it can offer a more affordable rate while still providing dedicated care. It's important to discuss expectations, schedules, and compatibility between children to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for a nanny mom?

As a Nanny Mom, your daily responsibilities often include supervising children, preparing meals and snacks, organizing activities that promote development, and managing household tasks such as tidying play areas or handling laundry. You may also be responsible for coordinating school pickups and dropoffs, maintaining a consistent routine, and communicating with parents about their child's progress. This role typically involves independent decision-making while also collaborating closely with the family to align on expectations and priorities. Flexibility is key, as schedules can vary based on the children's activities or family needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the nanny mom position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Nanny Mom, you need a solid background in childcare, early childhood development, and household management, often paired with relevant certifications like CPR and first aid. Familiarity with daily scheduling apps, meal planning tools, and child safety systems is important. Excellent communication, patience, and multitasking abilities are standout soft skills in this position. These qualities ensure a safe, nurturing environment that supports both the child's needs and overall household functioning.

How to become a nanny mom?

A nanny mom is a caregiver who often manages both childcare and household responsibilities for a family. To become one, gaining experience in childcare, obtaining relevant certifications such as CPR and first aid, and demonstrating reliability and strong communication skills are important. Flexibility with schedules and a caring attitude are also valued in this role.

Job description

Overview

Full-Time Nanny - San Francisco and Woodside, California

A warm, high-energy family based between San Francisco and Woodside is seeking an exceptional full-time Nanny for their three young children. Both parents work from home and are in and out throughout the day, so this is a true co-parenting partnership, especially with mom. We're looking for someone genuinely creative and thoughtful, who stays plugged into what's fun and engaging in the area, from great local shows to activities that spark exploration and curiosity, and who is truly invested in the children's well-being, minds, and daily engagement.

The Nanny should be up for adventure and passport-ready, open to both domestic and international travel if and when the family requests it, always with advance notice. Someone who can genuinely be a right hand during these sometimes stressful travel moments, while bringing their most fun and creative selves along for the ride, is very welcome! The parents also hope to travel alone a few times a year, during which the Nanny would provide full overnight coverage.

Important note on flexibility: This role is currently structured for one full-time Nanny, but the family anticipates evolving toward a rotational two-Nanny model in the near future (7:00 AM-7:00 PM - 3.5 days on / 3.5 days off). The right candidate should be genuinely open to this transition and comfortable with a role that will grow and shift over time.

Location & Schedule

  • Based primarily in San Francisco with weekends in Woodside
  • Schedule: 7:30 AM-5:00 PM
  • Live-out position
  • Strong local candidates only; ideally based no further north than the Presidio, given the commute to Woodside. Locals strongly preferred, though relocation would be considered for an outstanding candidate.
  • Start date: ASAP

Responsibilities

  • Full-time, hands-on care for three high-energy children, with genuine partnership and collaboration with mom and dad in a co-parenting style
  • Planning and leading engaging, age-appropriate activities: crafts, park outings, and other hands-on adventures (a car and valid driver's license are required)
  • Light tidying around the children's spaces; general help like putting away dishes or taking out trash (this is not a housekeeping role)
  • Grocery ordering and basic household errands via apps like Instacart when supplies run low
  • Maintaining calm, steady, and reliable care, even with three active, energetic boys in the mix
  • Traveling with the family a few weeks per yearย

Ideal Candidate

  • A minimum of 5+ years of professional childcare (or adjacent) experienceย
  • Ideally local to the Bay Area;ย  local candidates will be given first preferenceย
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Able to undergo an in-depth background check and willingness to provide employment references
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license
  • Valid passport and up for travel
  • Reliable and consistent above all; someone who shows up fully and sustains that over time
  • Flexible and adaptable as the role and schedule evolve
  • Experienced working with multiple children simultaneously
  • Warm, even-keeled, and engaging, with strong instincts for redirection and de-escalation
  • Comfortable being a true partner to mom and dad, not just a caregiver
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable managing small household tasks digitally
  • Mature and grounded in approach and communication style; someone who brings steadiness rather than needing to be managed
  • Maintains a low social media profile

Compensation & Benefits

  • $50+ per hourย  | DOE
  • Monthly healthcare stipend
  • 14 days paid vacation
  • 9 paid holidays
  • 6 sick days
  • Access to a CalSavers retirement program
