Product Development Technician
Department: R amp;D
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
The Product Development Technician supports the Product Development team in new product development and changes to existing products, including active base compounding, finished sample preparation, new product scale-up, and packaging determination testing.
Main Duties amp; Responsibilities
  • Responsible for compounding active bases for the PD team, managing requests in an effective manner
  • Responsible for application development and sample preparation as needed for new product development
  • Prepare capsule samples with support of Product Development Specialists
  • Prepare commercialized product scale-up samples to be used for packaging tests, and as control standards.
  • Perform applicable tests to determine the necessary packaging for commercialized products which includes summarizing and reporting results to pertinent parties; Perform bulk density, tapped density, fill and scoop tests
  • Requalification of flavors and raw materials;
  • Qualification and organoleptic evaluation of new raw materials and/or second sources
  • Application lab inventory management;
  • Management of production blend taste approvals;
  • Assist with entering formulas and packaging into costing models when needed;
  • Assist with powder stability testing and data analysis;
  • Assist in developing flavor systems;
  • Additional duties as deemed necessary.
Requirements and Skills
  • Minimum High School Education or equivalent;
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required;
  • A proactive, independent worker able to complete tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Possesses analytical skills with demonstrated technical competence and initiative;
  • Basic knowledge of lab techniques and practices;
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication;
  • Positive attitude and willingness to contribute in a team setting;
  • Knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
  • Must be able to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask;
  • Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting;
  • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas;
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours;
  • Work environment is normally in an office setting. Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment;
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
