Job description

GOSOX PROJECT MANAGER, Kavli Institute, to aid in the development and fielding of a NASA astrophysics Pioneer satellite program called GOSoX, who will have responsibilities including technical oversight, personnel and resource management, and systems engineering duties such as requirements definition and flow-down, risk management, and tradespace exploration. MIT has been selected to build and operate the first spectropolarimeter for the soft X-ray band (0.2-0.4 keV): the Globe Orbiting Soft X-ray Polarimeter (GOSoX). GOSoX is scheduled to launch in early 2030 and operate for 1-5 years. The design includes X-ray focusing mirrors, X-ray dispersion gratings, multilayer polarizing mirrors, and sCMOS detectors, taking advantage of existing designs from an ongoing sounding rocket program. This position will be responsible for overseeing the technical development, project planning, and systems engineering tasks for carrying out a successful Mission Design Review and Systems Requirements Review along with generating a Concept Study Report for the NASA sponsors.
