Job description

Location: Hill Air Force Base (Ogden, UT)

Position Summary

The Catholic Musician & Cantor provides musical accompaniment, music direction, and cantor support for Catholic worship services at Hill Air Force Base Chapel. The position supports weekly Masses, rehearsals, Holy Days of Obligation, and special Catholic services in coordination with the Catholic Priest and Wing Chaplain, in accordance with Roman Catholic liturgical guidelines and Air Force chapel policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide piano, organ, keyboard, or guitar accompaniment for Catholic Masses

  • Serve as cantor and lead congregational singing

  • Select and coordinate appropriate Catholic liturgical music with the Catholic Priest

  • Conduct weekly rehearsals and special rehearsals as required

  • Support Holy Days of Obligation, seasonal liturgies (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter), and special services

  • Coordinate music for memorials, penance services, confirmations, and special celebrations

  • Maintain and organize chapel music resources

  • Arrange qualified substitutes when unavailable, with prior approval

  • Protect and properly use government-furnished musical instruments and equipment

Qualifications
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Catholic church musician or equivalent

  • Ability to read sheet music and lead Catholic liturgical music

  • Proficiency in piano, organ, keyboard, or guitar

  • Knowledge of Catholic Mass structure and liturgical music selection

  • Bachelor’s degree in music preferred (experience may substitute)

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
